Resolved New video card MDD will not power on.

I have just received this card and when installed in my 1.25 MDD it will not power up, no light, no chime - nada.
Does it maybe require the pins 3 & 11 tape trick?
At first I did not think so judging from it being an Apple card but now I'm not so sure.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but that looks like a G5 card to me. Which mean mean pins 3 and 11 need to be taped.

However, I'm not sure if the 9650 works in a G4 even with pins taped. Perhaps Bunnspecial can chime in.

My general rule of thumb (with some loose exceptions) is "blue" circuit board equals G5 and "red" or "green" circuit board equals G4 when it comes to video cards.

Thanks for the reply Eric, I took the plunge (what the hell), and taped them up and sure enough that was the issue. Now I have Core Image which is what I was after.

I see you worked it out, but as far as I know any G5 card OEM/BTO card (that will fit-not all will) needs to be taped to work in a G4. Some retail G5 cards-like the 9600 Pro(which is actually marketed as both a G4 and G5 card)-are a different story.

The same is also true of flashed cards. I may be wrong on this, but I think you can get away without taping in a Sawtooth provided that the card will work in a 2x slot(not all will).

In any case, glad you got it working-that's a really nice card for a G4. I haven't had a chance to do anything with my most recently acquired MDD(also a dual 1.42) but the 9650 is one of the options I'm considering.

This 9650 resides in my 1.25 MDD, the dual 1.42 I recently acquired came with a 9800 pro which was a surprise bonus.

For future reference, to my knowledge all 8x cards must be taped to work in a G4.

Hehe, just put a 128MB dual DVI Radeon 9600 from a G5 into my MDD. Much better than the 64MB nVidia GeForce 4MX 😀

If I had a working G4 tower that isn't a cube I'd piddle with it like that. Someone wants like $50 for a local quicksilver.
EDIT: Either gonna trade a guy a dell laptop or gonna pay $25. The specs are meager at best.

I'm running this exact card in my main Quicksilver(which you would recognize). It's a great card, especially in a G4.
