For those who do a lot of High-End Rendering, what type of card would be better?

8800GTX?

Some type of Quadro with Quadro Drivers?

What's currently lacking in the Mac Pro lineup, hasn't the Quadro been billed as those who need Rendering power?

Is the price of it holding you back? Or Is it too outdated (Been in there since the G5 Days)?

The card I would most want is the 8800GTX or the 8800 Ultra.

The Quadro is a true workstation video card.
But it is mainly used for scientific applications.
It should be good for video editing, CAD, 3D rendering etc.
It will work but it was never meant for consumer use.
For example, they will work for gaming but they were not made for gaming.
The 8800GTX will beat the pants off a Quadro card when it comes to gaming.

Even the people who need or use Quadro cards in their Mac Pros are hoping that Apple will update the Quadro card in the next Mac Pro.

Because I use my computer for more than just video editing or 3d rendering, I would much prefer a high-end consumer card like the 8800GTX over a Quadro card.
And the Quadro card is too expensive to be used like a consumer graphics card.

The latest version of Google Earth (4.2 Beta) has a flight sim built in. Type Cmd-Option A.

Thank you.

Interesting thread as I was just thinking to upgrade my stock 7300 so I could play Bioshock with some detail.

I'm a complete ignoramus on all of this I'm afraid not being a regular gamer. How would one go about taking this card (thanks for the link vohdoun) which is Windows based and getting it to run on a Mac Pro?

Are there any resource sites for this?

Cheers!
