Can anyone confirm whether or not you can use this app to make copies of videos purchased through the iTunes store? If so, then it's gonna get pulled real quick.

I can confirm you can record any video that can be sent over AirPlay. Just ensure your orientation is correct.

So I just successfully recorded part of a streamed program on a TV app for example (Australia's iview) as well as a video from the Videos App.

So looks likes you could use it to record something streamed. I've not tried it with a rented iTunes video yet though...

You can record video played from any app that can AirPlay video - including TV streaming apps. Some record fine. However, it depends on the app you are recording and how it figures out its orientation, as often I found it records in portrait mode and not landscape.

You need to make sure you rotate to portrait in Vidyo app. Then go to your video app, record in landscape, stop recording (switch off AirPlay), then without going into portrait mode switch back to Vidyo and press Done!

A little tricky, but it works, and from their Twitter response I understand they are working on a fix today.

So now I/you can record TV/video streaming apps, and watch back later. Useful if it is just about to expire, or you want to skip the ads!

If you fail on portrait mode -
There are some video editing apps that could potentially rotate it by 90degrees for you after the fact (or watch it back on your iPhone with orientation locked/with you head tilted...)

I like this app , makes it easier to just use one device than having to plug into a Mac etc. I grabbed it before they pull it, I lost other good apps in the past because they were pulled like those teathering apps

This is a lot nicer than having to use Safari and Audio Hijack Pro on my Mac. Like not a lot nicer, but more convenient considering my MBP is on its last legs. One less thing I have to use a computer for anyway.

For those using it on the iPad, does it support slide over/etc?

You can do this for free using your Mac and QuickTime Player.
Plug your iOS device into the Mac, launch QT and select menu File->New Movie Recording
You'll probably see yourself as it defaults to the web cam.
On the right of the red circle record button on the video preview screen is a reversed ^ icon.
Click on it for a drop down menu allowing you to choose the video source.
Not everybody has a Mac.

In the past, when AAPL pulls it, you still get to keep the app (esp if you still backup to iTunes, the .ipa file is on your computer and you can reload it even if the app is pulled from the App Store and you need to restore).

So in otherwords, BUY NOW before it gets pulled (not affiliated with the devs, seriously, just telling you what has happened in the past with tethering apps etc that made it through).

Yeah. I bought a tethering data app about 4 years ago, still works properly to this day. They never "locked it out" of IOS.

Does this app record everything or just apps
[doublepost=1452171383][/doublepost]Like can we record the home and lock screen for example

you could've used that money to send a friend/family a gift from iTunes.

Then they'd have the money uselessly sitting in their account.

Yes. Have you ever used Air Play mirroring? Anything that you can throw up on a TV screen via Air Play Mirroring, you can save into a video file using this app. And AFAIK, there's no limit to what you can put on screen via Air Play Mirroring... You might not be allowed to play certain videos with DRM from the iTunes Store over Air Play.

But I will look pretty silly on the bus lugging an iMac.:p Oh wait, I don't have an iMac. A lot of people don't have an OSX device. I think this app is for those people.

Why must Apple approve things and then decide a week later that it goes against their rules. It's kind of annoying. Just review them properly the first time.

If Apple decides you don't need it, you don't need it.
If you don't need it, Apple won't let you have it.
If Apple won't let you have it, you don't need it...

This is a pretzel.
It doesn't have very much logic, but it is very tasty.

Why must we end users point out why things should be pulled? If something useful slips through, it's not our job to help Apple find it and get rid of it. This is why we can't have nice things.

The app doesn't have to use private APIs; there are a couple of third-party reverse-engineered airplay libraries out there. If I remember correctly, they work because someone went and ripped the key out of a ROM or something like that.

Anyway, I hope it sticks around.

Thanks, but these types of apps have a third-party server intercept the call to record it and I'd rather not have my recordings, even if it's just me fighting a local utility company, on someone else's system.

That app maker is smart. Make you pay $10 for the app, then they get to keep your recorded calls so they possibly sell it later to a data mining company.

I don't think you can use iTunes credit to send a gift (I've tried) - it will come off your linked card even if you have sufficient credit. Have never understood this restriction - it's my credit, let me use it for what I want!!!

I was able to give an iTunes gift using iTunes credit this xmas. If your account doesn't allow it (you get the "contact support error") you can email support and they'll turn something or another on.

Was anyone able to get this from the US App/iTunes Store?

iTunes on a Mac says it is not available in the US, and I am unable to find it on my iPhone's App Store.

Cheers.

Didn't get it on my iPad yet.. have it on the iPhone though. Time to back up to my Air.
