I have a 2007 black macbook. For some reason i just want a new macbook. I sort of want to get a macbook pro but I dont do anything besides web surf, listen to music, sometimes movies and word documents.
So, why did they get rid of the black macbook? I wished they made the black new macbook as well. I feel like a guy with a black macbook. Is there anything in the future with black or do I have the finale black model?

I'm really finding it hilarious how many people seem to think that having a white laptop suddenly makes you really girly.

I'm not sure I'd want Apple to make a black anything while they're on the high gloss kick though, can you imagine how much of a fingerprint magnet a black macbook with the same level of case shine as the new white one would be? No one can speak for what they'll do in the future though, and if they've made one once, they can make one again. I'm not sure I'd hold out for it though.

My cousin has a white MacBook and I like it myself. All other notebooks (with the exception of the HP Envy and MBP) are made of black plastic and seem too generic. So yeah Colorware is the way to go.

Just buy a new one, and spray paint it. Though i doubt it would stick. :)

As a person who's painted more plastic than the average MS factory, I can tell you that some high grit sandpaper (2.2k) and then about a good half hour with steel wool to wear in the plastic will give you an awesomely glossy coat and will make it last and look amazing. And it doesn't scratch as easily as the macbook tends to.

EDIT: Completely neglected to say I've actually painted a macbook before. You've got to be fairly gentle as you wanna scrape the clearcoat off of the case, but you also don't want to buttrape the case as well. The steel wool is to make the surface more even so it looks even better when you paint it.

I'm thinking about getting a refurb MBP over the new Macbook just because I don't really want a white notebook. It feels girlier to me.

EDIT: If you're gonna spray paint plastic, at least use Krylon Fusion...it bonds to the plastic unlike regular Krylon.

I can tell you that Krylon Fusion binds itself to plastic WORSE than regular Krylon does. If you use a Matte Finish Spray or a proper Clear Coat Spray then you won't need the supposed extra binding anyways. I don't suppose you've actually spray painted plastic before?

I have to say considering I don't care for the black keys and black around the screen on Pros, the plastic MacBook is looking better and better to me.

It still has that classic Mac look.

I actually LOVE the glossy black keys on my MBA <3

I've used the Krylon Fusion product and have had excellent results, even with minimal prep (washing the plastic with dishwashing detergent to remove any oils from it - no sanding or anything)

Yes. But you get absolutely phenomenal results when you sand, use wool and then clearcoat/matte spray after.

My problem with the white is that it quickly shows up the dirt and grim from ordinary use, unless you're obsessive about cleaning it. This is especially true for work or school laptops where the people using them simply don't care because it doesn't belong to them. :(

As for being "girly", the Colorware people can make you a candy pink MacBook. ;)

White is girly? Anyways, some people prefer the black one because of the matte finish. The white one is a scratch magnet. I'm getting a skin for my white macbook. Other than that i love the white design better. Its clean and sleek.

Why did they get rid of the black macbook color? I never figured out that reason...

incase sells a black plastic shell for the white macbook you know.
i mean, it wouldn't cover it all. but at least it would be manly on the outside.

Much easier to buy a skin for it seen some that cover most of the MacBook. Otherwise easy way is sign vinyl. Buy a roll of it in most any flavor and just trim it and apply it. Then if you ever get tired of it you can peel and do it again. I used sign vinyl to cover the wood trim in my car. That was over 7 years ago and it is still holding up. Done it to laptops before and it always served me well.

You can buy a big roll of the stuff in tons of colors/finishes. And it applies easy as can be. A blow dryer helps to shrink it around corners.

Just another option besides painting.

Hahha, I love just because it's white, it's less manly. LOL its a great little notebook and the white, isn't girly, it's just a color. I for one have a red InCase on my all white Late 09 and it looks peeeeeeeeeeeeeeerty, hhahahaha. Enjoy the comp, white is awesome. Can't wait to pair my white MacBook with the new all white iPhone 4...booyah!

If Apple does ever decide to release a black laptop again, then they should at least not be cheap about it and they should provide a black power supply also.

Apple charged a pretty nice "Black" premium for their laptop, the least they can do is provide a black power supply with it. And they should also make their other accessories available in black also, like monitor connectors.

I have to pick up a new battery soon for my Black Macbook, and I'm at least glad that I'm not forced to buy a white one, because that would look absolutely ridiculous!

A black macbook with a smooth finish would look so cool. Better than even the Pro.

The problems with the white unibody is that it scratches way too easily and the bottom tends to pick up a lot of dirt that is hard to clean.

Seriously, look at that. Just imagine how sick it would look with the new unibody design.

Why did they get rid of the black macbook color? I never figured out that reason...

The black macbook didn't sell very well and cost $200 more than the white macbook, plus the tax. For the $200 difference you got, the color black and a slightly larger HD. Most people would buy the white macbook and put their own larger HD in and save $150, plus sell their old HD.
