Just when I was about to pull the trigger on a brand new XSI I came across a used 30D. It has been used as a back up body for a local wedding photographer and is in excellent condition. It has about 8000 clicks on it.

I intend on using it with fast primes for concert (symphony/band) photography as well as in other low light situations where a flash would not be desired.

What do you guys think? New "latest and greatest" or Used "proven technology"
😕

They're both "proved technology". That shouldn't be a concern.

You didn't mention the price of the used 30D. If it's not out of your range I'd go for that without question.

30d can crank out files at 3200 ISO all day. The XSI will struggle at 1600. You make your choice. I'd haggle the 30d down to $550 if you can.

Will you be using a tripod in those situations? If so, you'll greatly appreciate having Live View. I'm not sure if the 30D has it or not.

Warranty is important to me, I'd probably get the rebel at this level. Though I have to say, $600 -> £300 would be one hell of a price over here!

Lenses

Looking at your XSi price, you were taking lenses out of the equation. Was the photographer going to sell you a lens along with the 30D body?
