Unfortunately, the cops have more important things to deal with, so it will continue to go unpunished.

I have no problem with a person reselling a few iPads or tickets or whatever. But these professional scalpers, who deal with hundreds of items, are scum.

meh....i agree on a very basic level but in the grand scheme of things, this is a more honest way to make money than many peoples professions, including many outside the usual suspects.

Often times the scorn for these people lies in the fact that they have what you want.

For me, buying an iPad 2 is for fun, but for the Asian grandmothers, iPad2 is a way to make money for living. I don't blame them. However, what Apple can do to eliminate scalping is to accept credit card purchases only. Many Asian grandmothers do not have credit cards, and I am sure it will help. :)

apple does not care if ipads are scalped

Scalper are scalpers. Their nationality has zero to do with the problem people are complaining about here.

All I can say is.. it DEPENDS on where YOU LIVE.

Where I live, I don't see a lot of Asians buying the iPad 2.. I see a lot of... *not going to say* in line for the iPad 2 while Asians are outnumbered in my location.

New York. Seattle. Los Angeles. Doesn't matter where you are, everyone is having trouble finding iPad 2's. I've been looking since Saturday; nothing locally available. No one knows when new stock will arrive either.

Though cc only purchases could help, one has to remember how quick and easy it is to purchase a prepaid credit/debit card nowadays. Seems like it has the potential of just adding another step to the plan, while inconveniencing legit customers who want to pay cash.

All those being "liberal" and "open minded" saying US is a free country and everyone can do anything they want with their iPads once they buy them, essentially backing up the scalpers, well, you speak because you have NO idea what's going on in NYC.

So, let me see if I have this right

- US is a free country
- People can do what they want with their iPad's once bought

And...people who think these common aspects of America and iPad products....has no idea what is going on? Did I get that right?

What is your solution exactly? To become "conservative" and start arresting all Asians in line without any reason other than their nationality?

SO last night ( early this morning..) I called the 5th Avenue store ...at 3:30 am. I was thinking of being ridiculous and getting in line at say 5AM.

So I get on the phone and ask what a realistic time would be for me to get online so as to actually get an iPad.

Dude said people start lining up around 1AM, and IF they get a shipment they hand out tickets around 9AM.

At this point I'm thinking of getting a refurbished iPad 1, and using the extra 150.00 towards an iPhone 4.

This roll out has been ....quite something.

I was in a similar situation in Chicago. Went to all the stores, multiple days, epic lines, a bunch of people with lots of cash, and I want a 64gb at&t. I just gave up and ordered online, and hope this backlog clears out. worst case I wouldn't have luck at the stores for about a month anyways... estimated delivery- April 23.. woooooo

Only reason the Asians are waiting overnight is because the profit is crazy high right now. I heard they're paying any AT&T $200 per iPad. Wifi model 140+. if you could get yours hands on any, it's easy profit.

Apple should of just had the pre orders just like any other device they launch. Now they just want to see lines everyday because the Verizon iphone did not have any lines. I think if they had pre orders there would not be so many peeps trying to buy and resell for double.

4-5 weeks shipping from Apple and Tsunami plagued iPad parts suppliers will not help availability in the near future. I predict shortages until at least July or August.

Fortunately, I want nothing they have. I was, surpringly easily, able to get the iPad I wanted. Easily, mainly because there were not hundreds of these scum scalpers in line buying up the inventory. But I have sympathy for those being denied one due to these tactics. Tell those scammers to get a job where they actually produce something for society, not just feed off the desires of other people.

I haven't heard anything about shortages in DC. It was really easy to get one I wanted. Strolled into our Apple Store Saturday afternoon and stood in a relatively short line for half an hour. Doesn't look like there are many scalpers here.

Money is money. What about the people who line up and buy an iPad just to smash it or blend it???

What you guys are talking about is policing what people do with their iPads, which is wrong.

Apple products are popular and they're only going to get more popular. Scalping is only going to get worse. Recognize this and get up earlier or be prepared to wait.

There is no way for Apple to discern a "true" customer at the POS. If you want to buy an iPad and turn around and sell it the very next second, that's your prerogative. You paid for the device and you own it.

Personally, I don't like the scalpers either, but they aren't doing anything wrong.

Apple should've had a pre-order with the iPad 2, with shipping arriving on the 11th. IMO, that's really the only way they could've alleviated the situation.

im in baltimore, and i cant get one!

i dont even wanna read the entire thread, just read your the first post, and you're ridiculous

i am asian and i work and live in NY. i bought an ipad2 for my own personal use. as did my boss, who's also asian. also, you're a ****** idiot. if you can mouth off without reason, so can i.

buy it online if you have a problem with lines. just cuz you dont wanna wait all night, etc. doesnt mean that those ppl in front of you are doing anything wrong.

And I thought standing out in the snow for an hour was bad.

Yea, iPad 2 will be a hot commodity for some time.

No I am just stressing how theory and reality are two very different things.

How many people in a given line want to buy an iPad to blend it? One?
How many scalpers are in a line? Tons!
I think it is wrong and it becomes a problem when the store that is supposed to sell iPads to customers stops doing so. Because no NY customers are buying them. They go straight to the gray market.

I'm sorry you feel this way. And since you read the first post you should have noticed the part where I said "I have nothing against Asians and I am not a racist. But I have much against these scalpers." It's true, I have many asian friends. You have clearly no idea of the problem discussed.

not sure why the hell you felt the need to point out a specific group of humans. i dont care how many asian friends you have... are they aware you're racist? donk.

lemme guess... your name is Alexandra Wallace?
