newbie activation question

I have just ordered a new iphone 4 on a new contract.

Having never owned an iphone before, I wanted to know how the activation process works. I know I need to install iTunes, do I need an iTunes account in order to activate the phone, is one created as part of the activation or can the activation be done with an iTunes account?

Call 1-877-800-3701 to activate the iPhone 4 manually with AT&T. It might take awhile to get assistance, but it works...😎

They'll be prepared to sign you up for a data plan as well...
