Hi all, new to forum...looks great.
2 quick questions, as I am very new to Mac.
MacBook Pro OS X vers 10.4.8 with all the bells and whistles I guess :)
Connected wirelessly with Airport Express to cable modem.
It seems every 30 seconds or so I get a subtle sound (funk maybe?) Not sure what it is but it's driving me crazy. I've tried changing sounds under system preferences but it's still there. Almost sounds like an email notification but I'm not getting any email. Thoughts?

Also, what do the the little black triangles mean under my apps at the bottom of screen mean?

Thanks!
Scott..There goes that noise again...UGH!!!

The black triangle means that the application is open. Generally you want to close applications that are not in use in order to free up system resources for apps you are using. Note that just closing an application's window by clicking the red button in the upper left corner of the window doesn't close the entire application most of the time. In order to quit the entire app, you must do so by hitting Command-Q or choosing the quit item from the app's menu.

I'm not sure what the noise you're hearing is...I'll think on it for a few minutes though.

You wouldn't have Pop Up Block selected in any browser you're using? Some have a sound when blocking pop ups. (Netscape)

Could it be that you are moving the mouse to a hot-spot on the screen which activates Expose? I get that little sound if I have no windows open and I go up to the Apple in the top left, overshoot and hit the hot spot I've setup. Go to System Prefernces, Dashboard and Expose and check your settings. Maybe....

Are you sure this is a system sound? Seems odd if you've changed the default warning sound in System Prefs but you still get the same sound.

What happens if you mute your speakers?

Now that you guys mention it, I wonder if it's a pop up blocker sound. Any ideas how to disable the sound when pop up blocker is enabled?
I don't run any other anti virus software.......

I'll see if it happens when I'm not on the net....

Thanks for all the help!
Scott

Figured it out! Thanks to all......
Determined it was the send/receive notification in Entourage. Didn't realize all this till you guys mentioned the black triangles, meaning I was not closing out entourage completely. I was just closing with the red button.
Successfully disabled the alert sound under Entourage preferences!

Thanks so much....I'm sure I'll have another question by the end of the week!
