    Hi, Mac people.

    I'm a PC guy, but that's irrelevant.
My 16-year-old son wants a Mac for Xmas,
    so I found a used PowerBook G4 M8981LL/A for $300.

I'm just trying to verify that all of the software is up-to-date,
and all of the parts work.
I did the "Apple", "Software Update".
It updated iTunes, and I restarted the system (even though I wasn't told to.)
Now, "Software Update" says everything is up-to-date.

I inserted an Audio CD, and it says that iTunes needs QuickTime 7.5.5.
I can't get that to work.

I know nothing about Macs (or Leopards, Tigers, Panthers, Lions, etc...)
In Apple > About this Mac > Software, the "Kernel" says "Darwin 9.8.0"
Does that mean that this thing was made long before any of those Cats? :)
In Applications, QuickTime is v 7.3.

My immediate question... HOW do I get QuickTime up to 7.5.5?

Thanks very much for your help, here.
(Please excuse the Cats sarcasm/humor). :)

What OS is it running. :apple:>About This Mac should show Mac OS X Version 10.x.x

    If it's 10.5.x, get this.

    If it's 10.4.x, get this.

If it's lower than 10.4.x, you're SOL without buying Tiger (OS X 10.4) or Leopard (OS X 10.5).

You may also want to go to www.apple.com/itunes and try the download from there.

That was a wonderful machine in its day. It was my first PowerBook and first OS X Mac.
