Well,

Right now, I had a extra 1gb. I can always upgrade to the newer OS and ram down the road. Is there a cost to upgrade to Mavericks ?

Good work & congratulations on your new/old iMac. :)
I looked up your model on EveryMacs.com, here are the specs. Your specific iMac unofficially supports 6GB RAM.

Yes, Mavericks is a free download through the Mac App Store, the icon should be on your Dock or in your Applications folder.

Thanks everyone !

Again, thanks. I'm hoping to start tinkering with it this weekend.

Mavericks is OK, but you appear to have Leopard - at least that's the default background screen for Leopard. You'll need Snow Leopard to have the App Store so you can upgrade to Mavericks. You can purchase Snow Leopard through the online Apple Store. There's other methods, if you already have another Mac running 10.6.8 or higher, where you can download the Mavericks installer, and create a USB installer on a flash drive, etc.
You'll also want to have more than 2GB RAM installed. 4GB will be OK, your max of 6GB would be even better.

Upgrade

Thanks,

But it's the only mac I have. Gives me something to look forward to ! :)
