Hello all, I picked up a brand new 8GB iPhone 2G 3 days ago. I immediately jailbroke and unlocked it using pwnagetool. There are quite a few things I am confused about even though I have read everything I can find.

1-Is the bootup with the pineapple screen supposed to take a really long time"? It seems a lot slower than I remember a normal (non JB) iPhone boot taking.

2-If I plug my phone into iTunes and sync music, video, or apps will this have any negative effect on my JB? Or can I just sync as if it were normal? I am assuming that I should never update the firmware through iTunes?

3-Is it normal for SBSetting to have SSH green upon launch? I would think SSH would be off, but does starting SBSettings automatically turn on SSH?

4-Will upgrading to iTunes 8.0.2 cause issues?

5-I See a lot of people on here talking about restoring their phone, what does this mean?

    Thanks!

I would estimate the pineapple bootup to be at least a minute.

So on the restore, I connect the phone to iTunes and I will see 2 options on the phone? Restore or check for updates? Am I understanding that correctly? As far as the backup goes, when I sync my phone is this automatic? So if I go from 2.1 to 2.2 once it is safe all of my data will be preserved?

    Thanks again

You will see those two options in the iPhone window that opens in iTunes.

Yes, the backup is automatic when you sync with iTunes.

Don't update to 2.2 yet. Wait until they say that it's safe to JB with that firmware. I just reread your post- your data should be fine once it's safe.

I'm waiting and will be JB'ing with Quickpwn.

So to make sure I got it: I connect my phone to my mac and iTunes starts. I am presented with a window that asks me if I want to restore or check for updates. If I choose restore it will bring my phone back to it's original factory state, essentially erasing the JB and relocking it? Unless I hold down the option key while clicking on restore and select my custom firmware that Pwnage Tool created for me?

So my data is automatically backed up, meaning contacts, and what else? This will also have no effect on the JB or unlocked status of my phone?

Lastly why would I use Quickpwn over Pwnage Tool? I used Pwnage Tool the first time to unlock and jailbreak, I don't really understand the difference between these 2.

    Thanks

Sometimes my phone takes a minute or longer to boot.

I think it depends on what you have on it, it terms of hacks (Winterboard, etc).
