Hi everyone. I was one of the lucky ones to score an iPhone 3G on launch day and I've never been so happy with a cell phone before.

My question is: is there a way to pick-up a call and continue while a pair of regular headphones are connected? The headphones I want to use do not have a mic built-in. I just want to hear the other party through the headphones and use the iPhone built in mic to talk. This didn't seem to work for me on several of my attempts.

I did not want to swing for a pair of Voda sets with the mic built-in since they're really pricey. The apple headphones that came with it are just too cheap sounding for my taste and they always fall off.

I also tried using a bluetooth headset with much luck, but I still have to take off one the heaphones and replace it with the BT headset everytime I pick up a call.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

As you have found, if your headphones do not have a mic, the iPhone won't send call audio through them (which would be a logical assumption ...if you can't talk, why would you want to listen? ...but there's always one in every crowd, :p ).

You options are to get a set of headphones with a mic, or get an adapter - like the Griffin Smarttalk - that has a mic and will allow you to use whatever headphones you want.

    Whoops...Now it Works

Sorry folks. After extensive searching on these forums (which I should have done in the first place...my bad), I am indeed able to talk throught the built in mic while a pair of regular headphones are connected.

Funny how it didn't work for me the last time I tried.

    :)
