I just bought my 3G S and would like to give my 2G (running 3.0) iPhone to my son to use for emergencies. I'd thought about just adding it as a line to my existing plan, but don't want to have to carry a data plan on it.

So, hypothetically, if I were to unlock it, I'd want to make sure that I didn't inadvertently unlock my new phone. I'm sure it's not something to really worry about as you probably have to try to unlock these things (beyond just downloading the tools, I mean), but need reassurance as a non-tech-savvy newbie.

It won't unlock your new phone unless you have it plugged in and press next, next, next, etc on the unlocking software...also I don't think u can unlock at 3GS yet just 3G and 2G...

Cheers.
