Hello, I haven't bought an apple product in long time. I just got curious of the iPad 2018 and noticed that seems to be a new one very soon. I wonder, apart of the recommendation of not buying it today, what other recommendations are there for newbies like me?

some questions that come to my mind:
-If I wait, I will see a price drop soon? or until next holiday?
-Apple store is the best source for it, right? or should I consider amazon or retailers?
-If the same form factor is maintained, the logi Bluetooth keyboard is desired or waste of money?

I am thinking of getting the pencil too, and my usage will be mainly work email, some notes at office, track all my appointments and hopefully will keep me out of my laptop at my home (media consumption). The Pro is out of my pocket and I would try with the "affordable one"

Let me know anything I need to know, my actual tablet is android but basically so old that I can only use it for web surfing.

Thanks!!

Yes, people think a new iPad isn't too far off, but it's hard to say what month we could be looking at for release.

It's unlikely there would be a price drop even by the winter holidays, so no need to wait for one. You could get a somewhat better deal if you wait for refurbs to become available, though. Or you could buy one of the current iPads, which are still nice for the money.

You ordinarily would want to buy either from Apple or an Apple-authorized dealer. I recommend buying directly from Apple because of their excellent return policy.

For a keyboard, it depends on your needs. There are lots of options, some of which are cases and some of which aren't. Others might have specific recommendations. If you're after a keyboard case, you'll probably have to wait for redesigned ones, as even slight tweaks to the iPad design probably would render current cases incompatible. That's a non-issue if your preference is a separate bluetooth keyboard.

Thanks for the quick response, usually I like to read reviews and assess my purchases and although Icould give it an use since now and years to come, I feel that I wouldn’t feel good with myself If I just go and get one with the possibility of a better deal just around the corner. (2019 version, if it happens).

Specially for an iPad that at this moment is not a first neccesity item for me. Maybe I should put a deadline and if there are no official news by end of March just fight back that part of me haha.

Any other “must” accessory I should consider? I already went through the screen protector thread and I think I will skip that and just get a Smart Cover.

No to other accessories (except the Pencil, which you already mentioned). I hate screen protectors and IMO they aren't necessary for most people.

Also, reports suggest the March Apple event won't focus at all on new hardware. That could be wrong and doesn't mean they couldn't release the iPad quietly (they've done so before), but don't be too disappointed if the new iPads aren't quite that close. Hopefully I'm wrong on that.

-Not likely to see a price drop. Apple refurbished are a bit cheaper and some retailers run sales on Black Friday and the holidays that I am aware of.

-Bluetooth keyboard...if you plan to type a lot they can be useful. Otherwise not really necessary.

Rumors are they will release new iPads in March, but no one really knows for certain. I'd probably wait until end of March to see unless you need one now.

The newer iPads will likely just be spec bumps so they probably won’t be leaps and bounds better than what’s already on the market.

Up to you when you purchase however you have two weeks with Apple and Best Buy (that I know of) to return it if you aren’t happy with your purchase. Walmart and Target both sell iPads too, you might check prices there too.

In regard to price drop, there are sales somewhat frequently at Best Buy (I picked up a second 2018 128gb for $75 off last week), so you might want to check them.

The pencil is the only accessory I’d consider a must.
