I´ve just purchased my first Mac (Macbook Pro), and want to try to program a document generator. I haven´t done any programming since like 15 years ago (Simula), and am looking for something really simple, and easy to learn :)

My initial thoughts, is to have different document templates, which will contain various sets of text-elements to choose from. And that the text elements are stored and edited in some sort of database.

Does this make any sense? I have never done any databaseprogramming, and am really hoping for something simple and Mac-based :)

Any suggestions would be very welcome :)

    Thanks in advance :)

Automatic report generation is used in most computing environments. They do exactly what you are doing, except instead of manually editing the database values, the data is gathered via instrumentation.

If you are looking for a Mac database, FileMaker is very good. It is almost entirely GUI based so you do not need to have a programming background.
