newer 3gs unlock help!

i have currently unlocked and jb'd newer version of 3gs.
it is on 3.1.2 7D11
carrier 5.0
05.11.07 modem firmware.

i want to have it up to 4.1 or 4.0 or 4.2 or whatever it is better than 3.1.2.
well let me restate it. i want it to be on firmware higher than 4.0.

like 5 months ago, it was not able. but i heard it could not enabled.

any ideas how to do it???

You need to update using a custom 4.1 firmware, one that keeps the baseband, by creating (Pwnagetool) or finding one (google). To install it, you must use Pwnagetool (Mac) or Redsnow(Windows) to phone into DFU and restore with the custom file through iTunes. Afterward, install Ultrasnow through Cydia to unlock the phone.

U need to hurry up before Apple closes the window and u will only be able to upgrade to 4.2.1

If you have the shsh files for 4.0 in Cydia, you can upgrade. Your baseband will change but you'll still be able to unlock.

The guide says "downgrade" but it works both ways upgrading/restoring.

Best bet IMO would be to update to custom 4.1 IPSW created with pwnage.
This way you preserve your unlock.

i do not have the macbook or mac os i have windows os based computer...
redsnow would work also??

i believe i only have 4.1 SHSH as i checked with tiny umbrella like 3 months ago.

I don't know how long they take to close it but it is fast once a new update shows up.

i thought u restore thru redsnow. you know how you reboot newer 3gs?

PwnageTool is Mac only, so you don't need to use Redsn0w. You use Redsn0w if you're unable to use PwnageTool (i.e Windows pc) and you downloaded a custom ipsw from the web.

Once the window of time closes to save the shsh files for the previous iOS then you can not upgrade to that iOS. Your only choice would be is to upgrade the newest version.
