Newly downloaded iTunes music being "pushed" to other devices

I currently have the settings "Music" and "Apps" "ON" under the Store options. I just re-downloaded a bunch of songs that I lost from iTunes with the new re-download feature.

But it wasn't "pushed to my iPad". I had to re-download previous purchases to my iPad as well. Is this what is supposed to happen? If so, you're almost better off syncing it.

What did you see when it happened?

What I did was first turn the settings to "ON" for the store, and then I downloaded all of my purchased songs again on my Mac, turned on my iPad, and no songs were there or downloading...

Maybe it doesn't work with re-downloaded purchases. Maybe it only works with new songs...
