News+ -- am I using it wrong?

So I am a subscriber and was taking a trip. I downloaded a set of magazines to read on the plane. That part went okay. Then I got on the plane and fired up News to read those magazines. It took *minutes* to load, I assume, because nobody bothered to put an "if inAirplaneMode" statement in that skipped looking for the mother ship?

It happened each time I used it, so I think it has to be flaw, but I can't find any support article on this anywhere. I'm on an 11" pro, so I'm not lacking for speed...

Doesn’t it require an internet connection?
 
If it's trying to replace Texture for magazine subscriptions, no. I should be able to download (which I do) and they should show up (which they eventually do after a very, very, very long pause).

I can only guess at this point. Have you tried,to replicate the problem? What happens in airplane mode? What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far? Has it ever worked?

No, you're not doing it wrong. Apple screwed the pooch with this hack of an app (News+) to replace Texture. Can you tell that this whole piece of crap has pissed me off beyond words? Not only did they TRY to fix what wasn't broken (Texture), Apple killed Texture off in the process. Thanks, Timmy. (You are NO Steve Jobs.)

The worst Apple App Ever! No continuity between publications. The bug list very long and may exceed that of the entire IOS /s. Offline viewing, what offline viewing. Terrible implementation by Apple.

No wonder the current Apple Engineers are struggling with a complex application like autonomous driving. They cannot deliver a simple reader for magazines. Their car will crash often, just like Apple News+.

On the good side. The content good and should get better overtime. That is if they can keep News+ subscribers.
