Help never jailbroken before!!!!!

Hi I have an iPhone 3GS running 4.2. I have never jailbroken before. I understand that everyone is waiting for an untethered jailbreak. As I have never jailbroken before and so have no Shsh blobs saved (what are they!!!?) will I ever be able to jailbreak my phone?

you should be saving your SHSH blobs now, using tinyumbrella from here all they mean is for each iOS that comes out you download them and save the locally or on cydia. You can then restore you device to that firmware whenever you want. Without them you can only restore / update to the version apple currently says you can.

So for example if my iphone decided it needed a restore, without the SHSH blobs I would be forced to install 4.2.1. as it is since I have SHSH blobs for 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 and 4.1 I have the option of installing any of those, with the advantage I can keep my untethered jailbreak.

You can jailbreak your 3GS now using redsn0w but it will be a tethered jailbreak (so you have to connect your phone to a computer and run redsn0w again if you ever need to restart it)

Just for the records, you don't need to be Jailbroken to save your SHSHs.

You can learn what they are and some other term commonly use here: Jailbreak FAQ and commonly use Terminology + Guides

i would like the unlock as well..i depend on the carrier unlock....just got an iphone 4 for the holidays and can't use it..

But still i am confused.

They said that 02.10.04 unlock for i4 was the number 1 priority and now they are releasing this untethered jailbreak and they are also working on the downgrade method for 06.15.00 for iphone 3g and 3gs and 05.15.04 unlock.

edit: forgot to mention all the time wasted to fix the gps issue.

I guess i4 unlock is the number 9999 priority now.

Wtf...

But still i am confused.

People pi$$ and moan when they hear nothing from the dev-team because they assume that means they are not working on anything.

People pi$$ and moan when they do get status from the dev-team because the dev-team is not working on the 'right' priorities or if, God-forbid, the dev-team achieves a breakthrough in a 'lower priority' task.

I avoid confusion by simply waiting for them to release their code. The dev-team is not stupid and they know what needs done and as they've said more than once, this process isn't like baking a cake where all you do is follow the recipe. Nor is it like regular development work where you have access to all the source code. This development is part art and part science. What are they supposed to do if they discover a way to offer an untethered jb? Not announce it because they have not delivered a 'higher' priority solution?

The number of people who have been 'forced' to migrate to a new phone, i.e., their phone died and they got a refurb, and they can no longer jb and/or unlock, are minuscule when compared to the total jb community. AFAIK, the dev-team has never announced priorities for any of their activity and even if they did, so what. They are writing the code and they can change priorities however they want to.

( they are still working on 06.15.00/ 05.15.04 basebands while i4 unlock isnt done, BB downgrade will be out soon. )

Also, i am just saying that they are not doing what they said they would do.

Thats it.

If they were saying nothing i would respect that.

BUT

When someone says something and does something else... i think there is a word for that..

For those of us who are already jailbroken, there is an app called iSHSHit. You can send the blobs to your email. I'm sure it all works almost the same, but it's another option.

What you should respect is their hard VOLUNTEER work and dedication into iphone hacking in general for all these years.
They dont work for you and you dont decide what is their priority or isnt.
You just take advantage or their free work and complain and try to insult them on top of it. I think there is a word for that....

They decided it and posted it on the internet. And they are doing something completly different.

Thats all im saying.

Tell me thats not true brah and teach me your broscience.

Guys, Not sure where all that discussion about changing priorities is coming from, The BB was and is the priority for them, they are working real hard at it, if you check the irc you can see that they are discussing several issues with the current crashed that they have. @comex have been always been working on the untethered while also helping the BB unlock, this have been parallel work. Unlocking the BB required lot, lot more work that why you see more news about JB Tethered/Untethered issue than the unlock.

Priorities have never changed, even when I agree that if they do, it is up to them and any bitching about it is just trash filling up the community.
