There was a MR front page story requesting sign ups if you wanted a digested 'best of' MR stories emailed to you weekly. Sign up with your email, receive email confirmation, verify you wanted it, and MR replied with:

Hi ,

Thanks for subscribing to the MacRumors Newsletter. We are just ramping up and will start sending out weekly emails in the near future, wrapping up the latest in Apple, Mac and iOS news and rumors.

It's strange. Didn't seem to be spoof, fake or phishing expedition. And it was on MR as a front page news story. I rarely sign up to these things but thought I'd actually read this and find it interesting. What a shame it never happened!

It's real. We ended up getting sidetracked with the hack and stuff.
