I have subscribed to a newsgroup service which I would like to use 🙂 - My ISP offers unlimited downloads during the night between specific times, so I would like to download stuff between these hours. I have looked at a variety of newsgroup clients, and none seem to features timed downloads (start at X hour pause at X hour)... so my question is:

1. Is there any Mac client that has this feature?

2. If not, is there any program for OSX that can be used to launch other software at X hour and shut it down at X hour?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know of any newsreaders for Mac that support scheduled downloading. However, Lingon is capable of launching stuff and shutting it down at specific times. Since it's basically a GUI for launchd, the Tiger way of launching things on a schedule, you'll need to be familiar with, at the very least, the open and killall commands in the Terminal - these two are the ones you'll need to start and stop applications.
