This morning I thought I would try the Newsstand app so I purchased a single copy of Cycling Plus on my iPhone. It downloaded and worked fine until I picked up my iPad2 expecting the same magazine to appear, but it didnt

I had to download the app on my iPad manually and still the magazine I purchased wasnt available to read

Both devices are running IOS5 (eventually) and both are logged into the same apple & iCloud IDs.

Surely the whole point of iCloud is to sync content across devices?

Settings > store > turn on automatic downloads onboth devices. If the apple id matches, should work from then on.

It was set that way before I made the purchase, thats why I used my iPhone when really I wanted the magazine on the iPad. Its just the iPad was in my bag and the iPhone in my pocket!

My first test of iCloud and it has failed :(

IMHO, Newsstand is a big fail. I was really looking forward to it, too. Celebrating the day I could stop using Zinio's forever balky app on my iPad. Apple made it sound like Newsstand was going to be a place where your magazines are stored, but instead it's somewhat of a cross between an app and a folder and all it does is contain various magazine's proprietary apps. Would it kill these publishers to agree on a standard digital magazine format? Good grief.

In any case, it's not even working for me. I've subscribed to a couple of magazines via Newsstand's interface and despite receiving the purchase confirmation emails for both (about 35 bucks total), as well as seeing the subscriptions listed in my account, neither of the magazines' apps will download their current issues and, of course, Newsstand offers no clear path towards finding a solution.

Looks like the same problem then. It appears that the apps are downloading/syncing but the in app purchases are not. Even the restore purchases button errors. This has also cost me money..

I have sent an email to Future via the in app feedback button, still awaiting a reply.

Just curious, what's your beef w/ Zinio? I find the app is fine for reading magazines. ???

I probably came off a little strong in my Zinio comment. I'm a big periodical reader and have used Zinio since its inception, so I'm not a Zinio hater. It remains on my home page and gets plenty of use. Past versions were crash prone, but the latest is rock solid. Little things like new issue notifications that couldn't be dismissed, magazine issues that were shown as not being downloaded, despite them being so. Conversely, occasionally magazine issues would go missing. Little stuff, but again, the current version has been solid.

That said, a few of my old favorites (like Autoweek) never made it to Zinio. Early on I even contacted some of these favorites (some of which I'd subscribed to in paper format for more than a decade) about jumping onto the digital train. Some of them eventually went the proprietary app route. Again, like Autoweek. Ugh.

I don't need or want 20 different ways to display 20 different magazines. I just want one tightly iOS integrated solution and Newsstand was touted as being just that. I had high hopes that given an "all Apple" path for providing iDevice users access to their content, publishers would jump on the bandwagon and our choices would blossom. As things stand, anyone could have made a folder (to contain various magazines' proprietary apps) and called it Newsstand.

From what I've seen thus far, Zinio remains the cleanest option. By far.

I was hpping for the same thing you were. In fact I didn't expand my Zinio subscriptions until I saw what Newstand had to offer. So far, I'm not impressed.

I'd really like to get my newspaper delivered on my iPad too ...

NOTHING...... I'm getting quite frustrated with this whole thing and it's happening on both the ipad and iphone.... What to do?? What to do?? What to do??

Same issue here. (I just paid £5 for a magazine, I don't want to use some other app)

The magazine app itself seems to sync down ok, but the magazines inside don't, despite the auto download setting being turned on.

What I really want to know is, if I re-"buy" it (it says it'll cost £5 again) will it charge me twice?

Edit: I took a gamble. It does like apps used to do and just after you agree to pay again it says "oh actually you can have this for free".

    I have the reverse issue..
Bought subscriptions for two magazines on my iPad and expected/hoped they'd sync automatically to my iPhone. Nope.

You have to re purchase, except it will say you have already paid and allow you to download again. Silly I know.

Main problem with Zinio is that in general you have to zoom out to turn the page. I say in general, because now and then you dont have to.

Also what i dislike about Zinio and the PixelMags apps, is that they dont save zoom levels from page to page, each page i have to zoom in again to a reading level.

Think they assume that everyone wants to see the whole page first and look at the pretty pictures.
