I have mine turned off too it is of no use to me if its on when I'm not looking at it. I have the AW6, health is about 82% now - which one do you have?
Maybe have your battery replaced so it can get you through a full day of events without compromising on any features. :)
I am on AW S9 so the comparison is a bit apples to oranges in a way. ;)

No, they don't want them to be throwaway. You can send it back to Apple for a battery refresh (they will replace with a refurbished unit) or you can give it to Apple for recycling. Don't throw it in the trash, that's not the intent.
What I mean is I think Apple want you refreshing your hardware often.

Mmmm that's not a bad idea. I just looked it up, its $135 plus tax. Do they give you a new watch or do they actually swap out the battery?

I'm not going to believe anything about different displays on an Apple Watch until Tim Apple is discussing how magical it is in a pre-recorded event. We've been misled so many times for so long on this that anything else seems like a stretch at the moment.

the will they won’t they tension between apple and oled displays on their watch is palpable 🫦

taking throwaway a little too literally here I think 😆 I think @jonnysods is referring to the idea of planned obsolescence, which isn’t something I think Apple engages in—they’re simply in an industry where product replacement is eventually inevitable due to 1) component degradation 2) the inefficiency of patching security exploits that only exist on older OSes (to those who ask “why can’t older devices support newer OSes?”—processing power. even then, the 6s had an incredible run in terms of software support, and Apple is better than most with security updates for older OSes).

What I mean is I think Apple want you refreshing your hardware often.

edit: obviously they want a strong source of revenue and I think they get enough of that from 1) diehards who upgrade every year 2) the “big jump” releases (S4, S7) that cause many casual users to upgrade—I just don’t think Apple engages in the kind of foolishness some have said it does.

Still 18 hours of battery life. Bookmark this for the future.

Apple has decided that's the battery life of a watch. It won't change. They will just increase processor power consumption accordingly.
It's funny because the actual battery life is almost twice that but they stick with 18 hours official.

We hear news about improvements like this and I can’t help but think, having this technology even work in the first place is amazing. “We” give Apple a ton of crap about slow improvements to products, but you have to recognize the R&D required just for something “as simple” as this.
Sansung and other display manufacturers and R&D: thanks

That's why I will probably lean towards an Ultra at some point as 18 theoretical hours just doesn't cut it for me. I get up at 5am each day and work out and am pretty active throughout the day, I only use the watch for fitness, texts and email notifications, nothing really else, and it barely gets me to 11pm. On those super active days where I have sports in the evening I have to charge it during the afternoon.
Agreed 100% on this. I don’t really want the watch to do more. Just need more battery life! If they could customise low power mode so you can turn off things you don’t use that would be a good advantage in my opinion.

Yeah it would be great if there were more toggles, I feel like I've maximized every battery saving feature I can on this thing!

I just want an ambient light sensor switch so I can turn the damn thing off if I want to. It's way to dim at times in a darkened environment.

It’s ok you don’t understand the technical working relationship Apple has with their suppliers. Not many people do. However, if you’re going to be snarky in your responses, at least spell Samsung’s name correctly.
It's always been odd to me how many tech enthusiasts don't understand how the industry that makes tech components works. Built to spec vs off the shelf are two entirely different concepts. Apple does very little off the shelf.

That's odd. I have a series 7 and while I usually only get up at 6am, I do use it for workouts, a limited set of notification, and for sleep tracking. I generally have about 20% charge the next morning. I do put the watch into theater mode at night as I don't like the glare of the screen while I'm sleeping. I basically get about 30 hours charge most days. I would like to have some additional battery life so I don't leave the house without forgetting to charge up and run low during the day.

I do put my Watch into theater mode at night and when I'm traveling. That seems to help the battery life.

Why is there not an explanation of how much more power efficient this new technology is?

Oh right, that might require some sort of research. :D

or access to proprietary documentation and internal metrics that are not publicly available?

I mean, really, for what we pay for these rumors, they least they could do it provide the tech specs prior to launch? /s

No, not tech specs. I mean 10 minutes of Google and it seems like it's a 5% to 15% saving. I'm not a tech expert and certainly don't write for Macrumours. I expect that MR has people who are smarter than me and can get this information quicker than I can, and incorporate it into articles. I guess I'm just surprised that "how much better" wasn't a consideration.

I'm not asking for trade secrets.

Wow 30 hours! I'm definitely jealous....

I’m an Apple guy, but switching from Apple Watch to Garmin was my best choice as far as watches. Tracks all of my health and sports and only I charge it once a week. Sends all of my data to my Iphone easily.

Expecting some major changes for this year's 10th anniversary watch.
