did she lock and track the watch to get it back?

they are rather useless to a thief since they really cant be resold. alot of thieves are dumb, so maybe they arent aware. soon enough.
tried, people will steal anything. I know they are useless in that state. I know what you mean

Not all of them, obviously, but some thieves know that a stolen locked device is useless except for parts. Unless they can convince Apple to unlock, have inside help etc.
I understand what you mean. YouTube is or was full of these stolen iPhones etc.

I would love to have a plastic watch as I have enjoyed owning several Casio ones as long as it’s rugged. Aluminum watch makes me be delicate with them.

Hard plastic will be tough, similar to Casio watches. But a better price point, time will tell

plastic to reduce their manufacturing costs; but will they pass on the savings? unlikely. If anything i forsee a price bump.

It's funny I keep seeing random deals for Casio watches under $20 pop up on deal sites, usually bought through Amazon. Maybe they are still a thing?

If you want one now they still make them.
If I didn’t have an Apple Watch I would 100% buy some Casio's and G-Shocks.

As a member of the generation that was a certain formative age for the iMac G3's debut: make a Watch with a translucent plastic case, and I will have clicked 'buy' before my brain actually registers a decision.

Unfortunately I do not know a single person with a bare aluminium Apple Watch which doesn't have a scratched or broken screen. I'd love to get an Apple Watch for my son, but I would prefer to find a second hand stainless steel version than get any model with the Ion X glass, especially for a kid. Imagine how cheap and crummy this Apple Watch would look with a plastic body and a screen protector on.
Well, My watch the screen is not broken, and the screen is not scratched. And it’s aluminum. I don’t understand if you mean by bar aluminum if it’s black or aluminum without any color.

I wonder what percentage of MacRumors forum dwellers own an Apple Watch SE.
my guess for all apple Watches (not just SE): maybe 40%? so SE alone, maybe 3 or 4%?

in terms of what % of total North American iPhone owners have an apple branded Watch (all series) is (2022 data) around 30%

Just call it the Apple Swatch and get a jelly watch band for it. With a clear rubber band thing crossed over the face for protection.

Well done

That's why I usually use a Skinomi screen protector and a Spigen thin snap on case.

It looks pretty much like a normal Apple watch.

Any watch is going to get scratches and scrapes anyway from daily use, some basic protection works for all minor damage protection, I would still do it with the SS model.

With all the nostalgia for past decades I'm kind of surprised the multiple Swatch trend of the 80's hasn't come back to some degree.

What happened to Liquid Metal? Apple got a good run out of that - light, tough and shiny. I still have a couple of "Keys" for the iPhone and have continually wonder why Apple has not leveraged their metal. Easy to form in very tight spaces and cheap enough for a key.

  • The Swatch Group, was granted an exclusive license to utilize Liquidmetal alloys developed after 2010 in its timepieces.[16]

I was indeed fond of semi-transparent Swatches as well… So much for that whole “I’m not just a thrall of marketing” idea 😬

Disagree. A watch would be useful if it was implemented correctly. Currently the only uses for the Apple Watch (non-SE) are:

- Blood Oxygen %
- ECG (only a single lead).
- Heart rate

What they need/should include:

- Temperature
- Blood glucose/sugar level
- Troponin Levels (never will happen since the test requires extreme sensitivity).
- White blood levels

I've heard rumors about AW measuring blood glucose like 5 years ago already. I think they've even filed some patent for it.

If they make AW that realiably reads blood glucose, this would be a huge game changer for all diabetics. I know some diabetics and I know that they'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I have mixed feelings about the plastic case. Unless it would be a strictly kids and/or fitness watch - it's a no-no from me. Most people who have a smartwatch wear it to work, to park, to restaurants etc. and a plastic watch, just doesn't look that good. Of course every smartwatch is lower in the "elegance" scale than traditional watches as well.

Also I don't believe in any significant price reduction. As others've pointed out - it's Apple. They don't lower prices. If anything they may even increase the price of AW and AWU. In case of the AW I don't really care about the environmental impact - it's such a small device that the impact is negligable (likely comparable to disposable food packaging for a couple of days per one person).

Still, at least here (Poland) Apple devices are still kind of a status symbol for some and are associated with premium quality and feel. Plastic generally doesn't feel that way. I mean yeah, AirPods and Pencils are ok, but a watch? Nah.
