We don't use copper wiring in my house. We use only gold since it is a better conductor and just simply has superior physical properties :p

No seriously, it's not going to be "$100 more upgrade"... it might cost $800 more to go titanium, maybe even $1500. Because it's not being mass produced, cost greatly goes up.

So would some of you really be willing to pay $1000 to go from aluminum to titanium?

Anyways, as I said - it likely will be Duralumin (Samsung Series 9 spacecraft pew pew alloy)

As a owner of a Powerbook Ti...it's heavy, you could cook a egg on it,and the painted coating is poor....so considering apples past record id pass.

I'm good with they way they are now...just make them faster with better battery life.

do you know how expensive titanium is?

seriously....you don't just walk into the store and buy some titanium

Aluminum is still a great choice for its pricing and recycling benefits. I just think the finishing needs to be improved so it feels a little more high quality.

Personally I say make it out of sterling silver. It's still pretty strong, hard and has good heat dissipation. Plus it will remain valuable no matter how old it gets. Who knows after a decade it may be worth a lot more than you bought it for.

How much thicker the case would have to be would really depend on the tensile strength of whatever the specific aluminum alloy is that Apple is currently using.

I guess if you're willing to pay for it, you can get whatever shell you want:

I personally would prefer platinum over gold:
