I've devised a simple diagram you can all use to determine whether or not a given card might appear in the new MBPs.

...........Is it underpowered for a $2.5k laptop?...........

..Candidate for the MBP......Not a candidate for the MBP

hahahah this is funny!
Yeh i think it is MAJORLY underpowered for a 2.5k laptop however the gpu is good for the size of the laptop which you gotta compramise.

I think they should chuck out the dvd player from the 17" and stick in a better gpu! who uses dvds anymore anyway??
well they should defo sort something out cause Asus, alienware and toshiba....oh yeh dell too are just riding rings around mbp gpu!

PS i download my games.

I don't get it

What's so funny? What is MAJORLY underpowered? GPU I can see, but they are trying to keep it thin. CPU? Hardly, since they don't make much faster CPU's for notebooks and they already put an almost top of the line one in. Of course a faster one is out but they are about to release Montevina sometime soon.

Actually a TON of people use DVD's. I agree, I don't use the one on my computer nearly as much as I used to...but I do still burn things on occasion and would like to at least have the ability to put a DVD in a drive and access it. What do you mean by riding rings aroung mbp gpu? The last time I checked, the dell xps 15xx uses an 8600M GT 256mb which is the same as the base model MBP. I'm sure alienware uses better GPU's but they definitely aren't 1". Apple doesn't make "gaming machines" which is why they don't make 3" monsters. I've owned a huge dell "gaming laptop" before and it was just way too heavy for it to be considered a portable. If something is that heavy you might as well get a desktop.

I don't think that black keys would be good; I think they look pretty bad. However, what I don't get is why Apple just doesn't make chicklet keys a BTO option on all the models; then everyone is happy. Plus, what is it with people and 20" laptops? Does the name "laptop" not mean anything anymore? I think 17" is about the limit, anything more is insane.

Quick question
What are the odds of apple adding a mba style keyboard?
i have to say that the mba looks horrible, besides its form factor
I put my trust in apple to release a good looking notebook
but i think the black plastic keys would look a bit cheap for a "pro" model
well the AIR is technically a "Pro" product and not a "consumer" product

Dude there are plenty of 17" laptops out there under an inch thicker than the MacBook Pro with 8800M GTSs. That card smokes the 8600M GT, the 9600M GT, the 9650M GS, and even the 9700M GT. It only even draws 10 more watts than the current MBP card.

The only reason anyone is complaining about the GPUs in the MacBook Pros is because Apple insists a professional notebook should be 1" thick; thinner than it's low end, consumer counterpart.

I know this argument has been done to death but it has to be said that it simply isn't true that there are no alternatives to the underwhelming GPUs Apple provides. You can tell me to just go buy a different computer, but what's the point in a forum if it's not for discussion and criticism?

i'm just tired of waiting already. I actually dreamed about it last night. No case redesign in the dream. They were also running ubuntu.
