At this point, I just want a reasonably priced 27-32” 5K monitor that doesn’t have a SoC or webcam. I’ll drop $999 on that and another $1600 on an M3 Max Mac Studio. And I’ll love it.
except the new imac "pro" would be basically replacement for imac 27", not the old imac proSome seem quick to remember the iMac Pro, while cool-looking, was a commercial failure - expensive workstation-grade hardware with a built-in display, with no expansion or upgrade path does not bode well.
An iMac with upgraded hardware and a "pro"/"max" version with a larger screen and slightly more powerful SoC (think Mac Mini's M2 Pro version) would float my boat tho.
I think having the display separate is better for the environment and my wallet.even though I’m going to switch to a notebook + display convo, I’m curious to see the new larger iMac.
I would expect by October?
not going to do much for my wallet because I’m looking at the ASD and the new 15” MBA whenever it comes lol. feel like that would be over $3K.I think having the display separate is better for the environment and my wallet.
No it wouldn't. It would be an 27" iMac with hardware that isn't 2+ years old or older. And you know what that hardware would be? It would be an upgrade from the 2020 iMac 27". Simple really. That would be an iMac Pro.
Until everyone dumps the studio display for not being up to modern day spec with 120hz and Mini LED when the new one comes out, if they cared about the environment they’d let us use old 5k iMacs as monitors for new macs.I think having the display separate is better for the environment and my wallet.
I would think most "pros" are fine with a bit more of a desk-eating machine. Minimize those bezels and a 32" really isn't that much bigger. The original 27" size was chosen because it fits more home and office desktops examples without getting too big. Start going the route of 30" and larger and some people find it too big for a desk or even at work on a lab bench.
We don't need the Pro, we just want a slightly bigger screen. That would be an iMac Pro.
In mid-2022, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggested that Apple is working on at least two iMac models, likely using the "M3" series of chips. He said that Apple will likely launch an updated 24-inch iMac featuring the standard M3 chip in 2023 and is continuing work on a high-end iMac model:
So, a 24" iMac and a "larger-screen" model, which is referenced throughout this article as being 27" is potentially in the works. Yet, the quote says the Mac Studio and Studio Display don't "cut it for pro users who want more screen real estate"??I also still believe that Apple is working on a larger-screened iMac aimed at the professional market. I'd imagine this will use a variation of the M3 chip, likely an M3 Pro and M3 Max. That would match the chips inside of the MacBook Pro. I don't think the combination of a Mac Studio or Mac mini plus an Apple Studio Display cuts it for many pro users who want more screen real estate.model:
Your argument is misleading, the 2017 iMac Pro (EOL 2021) was a limited time substitution using Xenon processors until the 2019 Mac Pro showed up. The performance of the regular 27" iMacs even were roughy equivalent to Pro as time went on. Given I saw 27" iMacs selling for $1500 to $3000 three standard configs, this $1999 M1 Max Studio and $1599 Studio display is more expensive then at the point in time last March when 27" iMac was EOL and the Mac Studio pairing became available. BTW we should all be looking at the budget Mac Studio as why is it still a M1 Max? Ahh thats because there is no M2 Ultra yet, and the Mac Pro needs to be around for that to happen.A 27" iMac Pro makes very little sense with the Mac Studio and Mac Studio Display combination being a better value than that 27" iMac Pro ever was. I echo the comment of what is needed is just a 27" iMac in the $1799 or so price point for people who want an iMac but want a bigger screen than 24" (like a 27" 5K display).
