If the 4th gen iPad won't be outdated in March why do they need to release a 5th gen so soon? So the form factor is the same as the mini? Something they apparently couldn't do in October but now will be able to do in March?

I can only think of 'foot in the door' and 'catch the holiday season'.

But the current Mini really is great regardless.

There just milking people for there money i have just got my ipad 4 about 6 weeks ago and now its going to be outdated by apples new ipads its just getting to much and to stupid to keep realising new ipads with out any major change so what ipad 4 is twice as fast as ipad 3 it doesnt matter no app uses all of the ipad 4 processor power.

Good God, man. Punctuate!

Urgh! I got my iPad mini less than a month ago. Anyone fancy speculating what the next one will have? I'm guessing Retina isn't an option for this price point, they would have put it the first one if price wasn't a concern.

They need to settle on a launch schedule.

I don't think Apple will ever do that. Unlike the Mac and iOS (which they pre-announced the launch schedule) they would lose a ton of business on existing models if they put out an official launch schedule. People would just wait for the next model and old inventory will get severely backed up. While I understand what you're saying, it's not good business.

Doesn't anyone realize how ridiculous it sounds to complain about a company coming out with new products too fast? The only people who would have a justifiable complaint about this are investors since new products have lower profit margins when they first come out.

Absolutely not buying this. No new iPads until next fall, maybe summer. But most likely the fall.

I'm going to start a research firm soon. Doesn't take much of a brain or credibility.

I fully believe this because it is what I always thought. The October iPad 4 update was just a "fluke." They will update the iPads in March. The iPad mini will still be a current generation though. I believe the retina iPad will launch at $329 and the non-retina will get moved to $299 or lower. The best show of this is that the iPad 2 is still around and the iPad 3 isn't. The non-retina will be equivalent to the Kindle Fire and the Retina iPad will be the Kindle Fire HD. (Not necessarily a 2nd generation iPad mini, but another version of the product to offer alongside the current one.)

they will lose so many customers if they keep releasing ipads every 5-6 months until now you knew your device would atleast be the newest for atleast 1 year.... now this just sucks

Doubt it, the average customer (which represents nearly all their customers) goes into a store, buys a product, takes it home and enjoys it. They are not checking internet rumor sites daily to make sure their model is still current. Think about everything that you buy, do you honestly do that?

Or they needed to ramp up production of a Retina screen for the Mini which arguably could be difficult since it has an even higher pixel density than the iPad 3/4. And the release of the first iPad Mini A) buys them time and B) tests the waters for demand and price point.

My guess is that the next one will simply have a Retina screen. Possibly an elimination of the rear camera? I don't know anyone who couldn't live without the rear camera on their tablet.

the retina ipad mini demand is going to be off the charts..

i only just managed to get my mini after high demand but i'm still selling if the 2nd gen has retina.

3 iPads in one year.

Let us know when you do so we can start to pick apart your analyses too every time you're wrong. ;)

Agreed; a faster product refresh also means that in the event you lose or have to replace hardware, you'll have reasonably up to date choices instead of nearly a year old devices...

And why does it suck? Because of jealousy?

Do you really have to be the kid on top of the hill all the time with the coolest gadget? Is that what iDevices are all about? Image.

You should really take a moment and think about just what is so bad about a fast product refresh.

Yet another"market analyst" prediction. Hell, I have a couple of predictions myself. Infact, here's one for you right now:

Press release:
New Slim Apple Thunderbolt display

"Market analyst Flottenheimer predicts that a new updated Apple Thunderbolt Display is in the pipeline for production. Due to low screen yelds for the 27" iMac production has been delayed and is now planned for an August-September 2013 release.

The display is rumored to follow the same slim aesthetic as the new iMac but is believed to be even slimmer. The Thunderbolt Display will be a 27-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; featuring 2560-by-1440 resolution with support for millions of colors.

Furthermore Flottenheimer states that the new display will feature Thunderbolt as well as upgraded USB ports supporting the same 3.0 standard as the latest iMacs and MacBook Pros."

Run it @arn — I dare you, run it!
I'm right about this one, you know. : )

Although im a big Apple product user, i do not like this thinner, lighter faster(which is no where near as fast as other competing products).

Where are you getting this little non-factoid? The iPad 4 still outperforms any Android tablet, especially in graphics (where the margin is huge). And when it was first released the iPhone 5 was the fastest phone on the market.

Hmm, if a Retina screen is all they add, I suppose I wouldn't be too disappointed that I still own the first generation. Any ideas on where people sell their iPads to put money towards a new one? I know Apple products have high resell value but I'm just not sure WHERE people are selling them.

If this rumor turns out to be true, is it considered acceptable for me to say that I'll still love the iPad 4 I bought in November, that it will still do everything I bought it for, that I never expected to have the "latest and greatest" for x amount of time, that I don't think that "greedy Apple is milking customers" or "forcing" me to upgrade, that I won't consider my iPad 4 to be obsolete, and that I'll keep it until it becomes too slow or doesn't run the newest apps, or a newer model comes out with features I want? Or am I supposed to moan and whine? I just want to make sure that I adhere to proper forum etiquette.

Calm down, this a rumor. Sheesh, people get flustered at Apple even if there's zero verification of a rumor being true. Oh, and you do realize that if you were keep BUYING, you're the only doing the milking in terms of your bank account.

Wifi upgrade to ac??

Would like to see the wifi upgrade for ac, if that is in the works for the MBA/MBP.

With the development of new hardware increasing each year. I would be upset if there were not more updates.

For ages people have been saying Apple's yearly cycle couldn't compete with the constant barrage of new Android phones and tablets.

Exactly and now that there's a rumor of Apple shortening their product release cycle then people here start crying. As Steve Jobs said....

"Customers don't know what they want".
