I always wondered... what are the chances he is actually reading these forums? I hope that if he is, it will not be acknowledged. Otherwise we'll have to deal with posts like:

"Steve if you are reading these pleeeaaase where are the new non-glossy /Blu-Ray MBPs already???"

Just write him an email

hey Steve. when you gonna put Blu-ray in your computers.

reply
Never.

seriously. if they haven't even put in native support to view discs off an external by now you really think they will ever put the drives in.

I'll give you on the non glossy, although you can custom order 15 and 17 inch online if you really want it. it would be nice to have that option for 13, imacs and displays as well

Read my post! I was actually criticizing those people. :D

But you are right, I should write to Steve something along the lines of:

Hi Steve

Do you usually read the forums at MacRumors?

Nope.

you want Crazy, I got really crazy

There's a theory going around that Gawker was set up.

They had a bug up their butts over the whole Steve's health thing and jumped on it hard. Enough that Apple supposedly stopped advertising on the site and giving them any info. So pretty much everything they post is media announcements and stuff off other sites. Which has not made Gawker happy.

And then they pulled this stunt over the tablet back in January and really really pissed Apple off. Since Jobs and company saw that Gawker was not above criminal acts, they 'lost' the phone wanting it found just so Gawker would get in legal trouble and end up with their rep in the mud. And Apple stays clean cause it's the DA doing all the dirty work.

They are saying that Powell wasn't fired because he was in on it. And he didn't lose the phone anywhere. He handed it to the guy and just called the bar pretending he lost his phone. They had him call AppleCare because they knew that no one would buy his story but would 'make a ticket' to record the call. in the end the guy will be all contrite and agree to help the DA and won't get charged with anything. etc

Now hows that for crazy.

Or Gizmodo setup Apple to set them up, in order to look like the "victim of corporate oppression" and gather sympathy, or...

By the way...

...Considering Steve's brevity in messages, he's better off using Tweeter than responding to individual e-mails! ;)

One thing always annoys me.

Why do they have to have so much wasted non screen area at the top and bottom on the phone? :(

You have 1 button at the bottom and a thin speaker slot at the top, but I'm sure they could reduce this blank area and would look better.

Then when you type in landscape mode, your thumbs don't have symmetrical access to the keyboard. Border needs to be pretty uniform.

Would it seriously kill Apple to add an LED or something to the front of the device so that you know you received a new message, etc. without having to turn the screen on, unlock the device and look at your applications?

+1 Nexus and the RIM phones all seem to have this and I've got to say it works pretty well. An external LED might be a touch old fashioned almost these day but it's a good thing to have. Sick of looking like an idiot clicking my phone just to see it hasn't gone flat (which happens way too often)

Are the seams really that bad?

The leaked photos of the plastic iPhone 3G looked like an ugly bar of soap, but it turned out well.

I have no issue with the seams either. There's joins and creases all over car bodies and for great cars they add something interesting to the design.

Even with those seams I think the phone looks all kinds of sexy. I'm sure I'll be in line to purchase the next iPhone no matter what. Did it for the 2G, 3G and 3GS.

I guess I will get the 3GS. Ugly looking. I won't buy. The front facing camera doesn't mean enough for me to carry that thing around. All square like. I have enough squares in my life. So un-apple like. I will still bet 20 dollars that it's not real, but if it is it won't go into production.

Nice non-bezel design. Even if you don't like it now it will grow on you.

It will also make the 3GS look dated by July. Of course that's just what Apple had in mind :D

If the new phone is a square, you probably should be carrying around this instead..

I really like the design as a whole, as I have from the beginning of its leak. However, what really irks me are the circular volume buttons. They just look so out of place to me. The seams are also a little odd, but if this is final design, they must serve some purpose. Overall, I like the "sandwich" design and the front facing camera a lot!

i have to say like others i don't understand the seams. it breaks with the design language apple has developed over the past few years, unibody construction, the elimination of extraneous screws, seams, hinges, et. al., even the speculation about leaving reception for the antennae that doesn't jib with the established solution seen on the first generation iphone, ipod touch and ipad 3g.

looking at the design it appears to have a glass like back, you may recall there was a patent discovered around august describing the use of cubic zirconia as it didn't block radio transmission. considering as well zirconia is an incredibly strong and scratch resistant material it makes a great deal of sense.

i could also see that back panel having some touch capabilities.

Maybe they've developed a shatter resistant glass for the iPhone?

What is with those random seams in the case? Please tell me they just got a hold of another prototype case, and not the production case.....

What is with all the horror over a couple if thin black lines? Are people that OCD?Hell,I only use the front anyway.

It's funny how some people can't accept that this is the next iPhone and continue to brush it off as a prototype and not a production unit.

People, this is the final design.

Yes,the denial level is really interesting.Kind of funny and kind of sad too.

i agree - but like previous posters have stated, i just don't get the seams.

the iPad does not have any seams like this, neither do previous iPhones or iPods.

At the risk of being one of those people who"just know"what Apple would do,I'm pretty confident that the seams would not be there without a good reason.I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Still dunno why they didn't go to 3.7" and instead went smaller but higher res. Bad bad bad.

Apple isn't targeting the nerd-market with the iPhone. They want to sell it to everybody - including women, who, unlike nerds, don't think it's cool to haul around a 4,3 inch brick in their back pocket. Hence Apple isn't going the "super size" route with the iPhone, they are trying to make it even more compact and sleek.

No way this is the final design. It's too industrial looking for Apple. This is the company that resisted putting two buttons on a mouse for crying out loud, and now the new iPhone looks like it was slapped together, with random seams visible?

Incredible that you people are still out there.Just amazing.

Maybe the seams are there so the robot that machined the part could grip it there without scratching the rest of it.
