Parts for the next-generation iPhone continue to surface as the device's expected introduction at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference next week approaches. The latest part to make an appearance on Taiwanese site Apple.pro is the device's battery, and while it appears that no additional info can be gleaned from the new images beyond that disclosed in reports based on prototypes that surfaced in the hands of Gizmodo and a Vietnamese mobile phone dealer, it does appear to offer another example of Apple's supply chain leaking out parts for an unreleased product.

As first disclosed by Gizmodo, the new images show that the next-generation iPhone's battery carries a capacity of 5.25 watt-hours, a nearly 16.5% increase from the 4.51 watt-hour battery in the iPhone 3GS. The Vietnamese leaked prototype, however, carried a 5.00 watt-hour battery.

The site has also posted a photo of the forthcoming iPhone's dock connector and cable, which differ somewhat in appearance from the design used in the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

Steve:

"We thought we'd do something magical this year with the iPhone. Remember when you were a kid, and you asked Santa for that Lego set or recter set. Well now it's Christmas all over again. Were gonna let you build it yourself. With our all in color step by step instructions..."

This is how they will get around being blamed for all of the suicides at Foxconn.

RE Dock connector...

Will it be backwards compatible with older docks?!

I need it to work with my car stereo!!!

16% more?
I wonder what that actually translates to in real world usage.
Hope it's more than just an hour.

Does this mean that iPhone OS4 is going to drain battery life that much more quickly as they needed to put in a huge increase?

Does anyone know how much a 16% increase would be in real world usage?

Thats the question I wanna know too. The iPhone battery is fine until you start using apps and browsing a lot then it drains pretty quick in my experience. Would love to be able to use the phone more throughout the day without having to worry about finding a place to plug in.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

It's not just a bigger battery, it's the power-sipping A4 chip as well. IMO we could be looking at dramatically better battery life.

This has got to be the worst leak in the company's history. Geez!

Yea its a bigger battery but its also gonna be powering a hi-res IPS display so i wouldn't expect batt life to improve by much if at all.

You'd think that if they can create batteries that will power a laptop for 10 hours +, then there would be some that could power a phone for an entire day.

Not nearly enough :)

My 3GS I travel with my USB plug and a car charger in my brief case and grab a charge whenever I can. Seems to work well for me. Usually end up with 30% or so on the battery.

I'd classify myself as a power user with per day "guess-timates" as follows: Exchange push Email 150+, some with attachments
30-50 SMS some with images
Net-surfing, UPS/FedEx portals
Twitter, Crossword
Custom app I had written for our business.

The IPhone really has changed the way we do business. Much less of a need to open the laptop and latch on to a wireless service while in the field. Gamer changer to be sure.

well well well,

i would *assume* 4.0 will use the battery more efficiently, as the OS seems to get more efficient every release, so i would *assume* that we could be looking at a much better battery life here.

does anyone know how efficient the A4 is in comparison to the current chips in the 3GS?

pretty soon, we will be able to build our own before they are officially released :eek::eek::eek:

Excellent plan, it probably wouldn't cost £540 then! Although think of that 1% profit that you're denying a poor Foxconn worker!

I think that this is further proof that the Vietnam phone is actually an earlier prototype than the Gizmodo phone. This, along with the lack of screw holes on the bottom vs the Gizmodo phone having the two screws on the bottom in the same place they are on the 3G and 3GS.

Man there is something not rite here, this is Apple we are talking about, They sacked a guy for showing a founder a prototype iPad remember, this many leaks don't make sense at all, I have a feeling we have a shoal of red herring each the size of moby dick here.

Either Apple have decided to make it available at launch in large numbers so they have bumped production so much that leaks are inevitable or next Tuesday will be one well of a surprise to everyone.
