The iPad 10’s Pencil doesn’t have a dongle, it has a charging/pairing cable; a dongle is something you need to use to draw with the Pencil. How would this work with the magnetic pencil? I was always told the "iPad" has this ridiculous dongle solution because there is no room to put both magsafe + camera on the side
Kind of like wheel hubs on luxury cars.Just waiting for an Apple patent on a rotating metal logo on the back that orients itself to the landscape or portrait based on device rotation.
Apple could easily support both, the hardware parts aren't that expensive, and it could simply switch in sync with screen orientation.I suspect I’m in the minority, but I always use my tablets in portrait mode, never landscape. I much prefer the camera in portrait to match.
The iPad Air 5 has an M1 chip. And it's great. But the camera is a pain but doable. I was hoping for an M3 chip to match my iMac.This.
But Apple won't do this , they are afraid of product cannibalization.
I can assure you that I wrote it myself without any AI influence.I dont disagree with you, but that reads like Chat GPT.
You charge enough for the iPad Pros + keyboards to make it worth it and let the products cannibalize themselves to see which one people want more. This is how Jobs did it with the iPod.But how do you sell macs? Thats why I doubt we ever see a hybrid.
Foldable would be dope.
LOL, that would be hilarious 😆 That said, my iPad Pro 2020 is on the Magic Keyboard 90% of the time so unlikely to happen. Can you image wanting to do something in MacOS but you cant because you didn’t bring your keyboard case. LOL
I feel your pain but you are in the minority. Every report I’ve read over the past few years indicates that the vast majority of iPad users operate in landscape mode 100 percent of the time. In fact, it doesn’t occur to me to use it in any other way.I prefer using my iPad in landscape mode when browsing the web but prefer portrait mode when using FaceTime. Why would they change this? Doesn't it make sense to have it in portrait mode to mimic the iPhone which is what 75% of all FaceTime calls are conducted on? Btw I made that number up, but again, the vast majority of iOS devices are iPhones and the most frequently used device for FaceTime I assume is the iPhone.
The camera is probably the only thing I really wish was different on my iPad Air 4... its the only thing it doesnt do well (video calling because of the ridiculous side positioning). No reason to update from an air 4 or 5, like at all. Unless that camera is that important to you.
What are you doing on a mini to require more RAM... in terms of everyday usage?I just want a damn iPad mini with more ram and a nice screen. Throw an A17 in there and we’ll call it even.
(M1 would be glorious)
And many aren’t 🤷🏻♂️Landscape front camera is a must for Apple to keep customers happy! Many today are making podcasts and doing Zoom calls which need them focused on the center of the screen, plus having Center Stage is essential for many users. Keeping direct eye contact helps the viewer of the video or podcast feel like the content creator cares about them and desires to engage directly with them.
Like the PS logo on the PS2 drive tray?Just waiting for an Apple patent on a rotating metal logo on the back that orients itself to the landscape or portrait based on device rotation.
Finally. Only at least 4 years' late to the party. And just the 18 months since the bog standard 10th gen iPad got this basic but obvious....no no sorry, I can't even call it a "feature".
I'd love to know the near-impossible engineering barrier Apple nerds had to overcome to achieve this. My guess is it's the magnetic attachment (ignoring just moving it to the opposite 'bottom' edge obviously), meaning this new iPad will require a "new" Pencil, which of course will have a male USB-C port under its loose cap, to be inserted like the Pencil 1, and charge in classic seppuku mode.
The iPad has bezels so you can hold it, no need for a notch. You don’t hold a MacBook by its screen. You can hide the MacBook notch so why are people still complaining about the extra screen space. And – wait for it – a MacBook notch. Absolutely stunning, amazing, incredible! It’s like magic, a notch where you don’t need one! Wow!
Not dramatic, just sarcasm. The obvious and simplest solution would be to relocate the charging area to the bottom edge (a cleaner look IMO and doesn't interfere with keyboard case hinge as the iPad will be tilted forwards anyway), leaving the top free for a landscape camera.Of course the issue is the charging pad; its not near-impossible, don't be dramatic. If they move it to the short side, the Pencil blocks the speakers. So the solution is split pads and a new Pencil.
The Pencil blocks the speakers on the top short side, and moving it to the bottom long side means it is incompatible with the Smart Keyboard and Smart Folios. This eliminates potential owners who don't want to buy the most expensive keyboard accessory. Not dramatic, just sarcasm. Nobody's suggesting the short sides. But it's only "incompatible with the Smart Keyboard" along the bottom in the sense that it doesn't close with the existing Pencil 2 in place. But it could still attach and charge when the SK is open. The Pencil blocks the speakers on the top short side, and moving it to the bottom long side means it is incompatible with the Smart Keyboard. It’s incompatible with the Smart Keyboard and Smart Folio in the sense that the iPad’s bottom long side rests on them. You would not be able to have the Pencil attached to the iPad while using either of them. It's only "incompatible with the Smart Keyboard" in the sense that it doesn't close with the existing Pencil 2 in place. Apple could incorporate a hinge gap to accommodate a Pencil when they update the SK as per the rumoured premium metal version, hopefully with illuminated keys as well.
I have the SK (not the Folio) and when it's open and angled, the bottom edge is raised forward leaving sufficient space for an AP2 to attach beneath the bottom iPad case edge and the keyboard, without impeding on the latter's use. It's the "magically suspends in mid air" design feature. It’s incompatible with the Smart Keyboard and Smart Folio in the sense that the iPad’s bottom long side rests on them.
