Okay, Safari. I have three windows open now, no refresh. I can do five, I have had six, but most were not graphics heavy. Atomic web browser does even better, but since you don't own an iPad all you can do is go by what people say on this forum, and MOST of the bashers don't own them either.
iPod touch reference. iPad has a faster processor than the touches and iPhones. It also has a HIGHER resolution IPS display (touch doesn't use IPS). The iPad and touches/ phones are similar so they can run most of the same applications. They are designed to compliment each other. This also makes it easier for the app developers to reach more people. Do you really want them to totally rewrite Angry Birds so it can be ported to the touch/iPhone ?
Ram. Yep, more is better, to a certain extent. But the iPad also runs faster than the iPhone 4.
Camera. You have an iPhone. Use that for facetime. Every electronic device manufactured does not need a camera. Some of us also do jobs at facilities that prohibit cameras. So now I am stuck using crappy laptops. (Apple does not make a laptop without an integrated iSight camera). Please don't take away my option to upgrade my iPad by including a camera that people will hardly ever use.
Storage. Most normal people (based on claims I have read on MR) don't use half the storage that they have now. Why would they double storage and drop the 16 gig (which is a good seller)?
My opinion is that the iPad evolution needs to start in software. Recent Numbers update should mean I'll be breaking out the laptop even less. I'll download the update and try it out when I get home tomorrow and see.
Apple will develope and evolve the iPad no matter what the compition does. Or even if there is still a lack of it. (Is the Archos really a competing product? It's been out for a while, anyone have sales figures?)
the safari problem usually comes from what I can tell when you start to open more apps and with multitasking more RAM will always be better it is really a negligible cost and 1gb would just provide a better experience no doubt. I can sometimes run 20 or more tabs when I'm researching and want/need multiple pages open at a time. although it might not be general use it is not fun to wait for pages to reload. I see the safari problem on my iphone 4 with double the ram and it was awful on the iphone 3g. no need to own an ipad! STOP justifying LESS, Im not saying apple should charge more but the next version NEEDS more its a newer version it should get performance upgrades which should be better than preceding touches/iphones they just should for the sake of technological advancement.
I know the screen is IPS and higher res, but it needs to be when it is bigger thats another reason it needs a better processor and battery. extra pixels and size don't come for free. well no, touches and iphones should be the same, the ipad version of angry birds has an upgraded resolution I'm not saying the platforms should be different. If they all use ARM variations no recoding should be needed except to take advantage of extra grunt and res this is done for the current ipad anyway so I don't know what you are insinuating. Im just saying the ipad should have a better processor variant not just a slightly higher clock.
Oh yeah and still none of those upgrades account for DOUBLE price, look at the apple TV same hardware minus the screen, batteries and (until a teardown confirms it) the storage and thats $99! We know apple will make a nice profit on that so do those things really add in $400 to get to the ipad price noooooo. The ipad won't get cheaper as the market has spoken and found it a reasonable price but it does rather entitle us to some higher specs dont you think?
😕
On the camera I agree I could not care less about facetime but so many people complain about the ipads lack of it. it's on apples roadmap for ipad anyway but a rear facing camera is a little silly and unnecessary.
your point on storage makes no sense, 32gb FOR THE SAME PRICE AS YOU CURRENTLY GET 16gb is what should happen. the 16gb chips are getting cheaper for apple so why not give more. If you can get more for the same price why wouldn't you? the reason the 16gb sells more is because it's cheapest not because 16gb is the best amount of storage. if I want music and large games which are inevitable as the power increases and higher res textures and assets are used more space will be a necessity what is suitable now is not always what will be suitable in another year or two.
Yes there should be evolution in software, but you must take into account how hardware evolution provides the means for greater software. I see the same problems in game console arguments when people say the Wii hardware is fine and that being more powerful is pointless. More power in video games allows for better AI and physics etc its not all about graphics. It is hard to look at apple to always lead with software updates considering the news that only one guy was on the remote app and he was moved off that so no more updates, who knows how large their iOS iwork team is, at least you got an update. The lack of a modern notification system in iOS4 is a sign of how slow or stubborn apple can be although I assume it stems from the lack of multitasking in the earlier OS so we might get it in iOS5
Obviously apple will evolve its products but you are naive if you don't believe competition provides the greatest incentive! look at the comments SJ makes about google and microsoft. He wants to provide something better than them, if they aren't there adding their new features what is apple going to look to be better than. The whole foundation of the iphone was improving on the phones that were out there, if nothing was there for apple to be better than would they have invented the phone I'm not sure.
Also thanks for the welcome
🙂, I love reading the site, and some healthy debate is always good. It is a shame that sometimes it all falls into name calling and trollishness.
