    Hi all,

I am new to this place....anyway I need some advice here.

As a student I am eligible for the Mac + free iPod offer. I'm just wondering, as this promotion ends on Sept 8th, would a new iPod touch update be released before that as Apple usually has an event early Sept each year. (It's annoying as they only announce the date like a week and a half before). The ipod touch is bound to be updated as it will most likely contain the New graphics chip.

Anyway, the question is, should I buy now or wait until 8th Sept?

    NOpe

No, the new iPods have never been a part of the promo. Apple uses it to clear out old stock.

I would buy it now. ITS FREE!

I don't think it will be a MAJOR update, but I really don't know. Might as well get it for free, then if a new one comes out, sell your Free one and spend $100 to get a brand new one.

Updates will probably be close to the same things the iPhone got.

I'd buy now. I'd strongly doubt they'll release the new iPods before the promotion is over. The whole point of this "free iPod" sale is to clear out stock. (And get more people to buy MacBooks, of course)

Get it now while it's free. If a new one comes out sell it. The only real update I can see happening is the same thing the 3G S got and possibly 64 GB HD. Besides that, nothing major.
OR you can just get a new iPod Touch for free, sell that, and shell out more money and buy a new iPhone 3G S (if that is an option). At least with that route, you get a great phone and the latest 'iPod." I myself, have a 3G S and am going to use the deal to get a Classic.

No way will Apple put the iPhone 3G S hardware in there. It would be too expensive. BTW, the iPT already has a faster processor than the 3G.

And even a 64 GB SSD is expensive. Maybe next year.

The iPod touch and iPhone (and nano for that matter) do not use an SSD. They just use flash memory, and it is not that expensive. I am sure the update in September (which, if memory serves, has been around Sept. 17th the last few years) will include 64 GB of memory and the faster internals of the 3G S.

This is exactly what I meant. 64 GB flash and newer hardware of the 3G S. The same thing happened when the 3Gs and 2nd gen iPod Touches were released.

I don't know if this applies to other online apple stores, as I am based in Hong Kong I am eligible for a free printer also! :D

The laptop and the ipod should be arriving sometime in the next two days....I can't wait!
