It probably won't clock at much higher then the current G4s, but the FSB will be a huge advantage plus I believe it could address much more memory. There would be other advangates as well. They are starting intel macs at the low end, so PBs are going to have to wait awhile. I still think a G5 PB is probable before the end of this year.
What would be the point in this? It's been stated that there will be no G5 powerbook. We know that the intel switch is coming at some point in the next year or so. Even though this new low-power G5 chip exists, what would be the point in Apple buying it to use in one or maximum two powerbook revisions before they switch to intel? I don't claim to know anything at all about internal computer components, but am guessing that they would probably have to redesign the mobo to accommodate such a chip... or would the new G5 chip just slot into the same socket as a G4? Of course I could be completely wrong but just can't see this happening. My guess for the next PB revision is just minor speed bump with the 12 inch getting the 1.67 cpu and the 15/17 inch models going to about 1.8GHz. I expect that the 512 RAM will be soldered on in one lump on the 12 inch model (as with the brand new ibook) instead of 2 x 256. And possibly an upgraded graphics card for the 12 inch, but nothing major.
