Not impossible. I couldn't find the maximum number of pixels supported by the GTX 680M. The GTX 650M already supports a resolution of 3840x2160, which would be the resolution of a retina 21" iMac. The 680M might support an even higher resolution, but I couldn't find its specifications.

Anyway, the next generation of NVIDIA cards will probably support this kind of resolution.

Umm... (That's the GTX 680)

That's the GTX 680. I was talking about the GTX 680M. The NVIDIA website doesn't specify the maximum resolution supported. I know the GTX 680 is far more powerful than the GTX 680M. But the GTX 690, which is the most powerful of them all, supports up to 2560x1600 while the GTX 650M supports up to 3840x2160.

The Cinema Display from Apple, with its 2560x1440 resolution, has 3,686,400 pixels. The retina version of it (or of a 27" iMac) would have a resolution of 5120x2880, which blows everything else away. It would mean an unprecedented 14,745,600 pixels and I don't think there are any video cards that can match this resolution. The current retina MacBook Pro has a resolution of 2880x1800 and 5,184,000 pixels.

It won't happen. 4K (4096x2160) monitors on the market cost tens of thousands of dollars and require workstation-grade graphics cards to drive them. It is just not a consumer technology at a moment. Perhaps in a few years.

Who knows for sure? One year ago, a resolution larger than 1920x1080 was unthinkable of in a portable device. Then Apple released the new iPad, with a resolution of 2048x1536, as costing as much as US$ 499, which is half the price of the 2560x1440 Thunderbolt Display.

Well, it seems like no one really believes Samsung will release a high definition laptop before Apple does it again...

It looks like the MacBook Pro is the winner here... and as the launch is imminent, reportedly on Oct 23, it probably is the one.

I am actually proud of Apple for having super high resolutions before other laptop companies, they are the only one to actually take this risk. No doubt though, in a year or 2, super high resolution laptops will be popping up more.

Why are you proud of it?

17" Retina MacBook Pro Haswell 2013

Pretty much - hands down the 17" Retina MacBook Pro Haswell 2013. Roar!

That's good! But I consider it a waste of resources, anyway. Android, really??? I don't owe an Android tablet, but is there much to be done with it other than surfing the web?

To be honest with you, and this is completely my viewpoint. I've had both the iphone 5 and galaxy s3. What I personally feel (not trying to start and argument) is that Android is more advanced while iOS is not that great. However, apple wins in build quality and simplicity. Apple also won me over with their laptops, but they haven't won me with their phones yet. Im sure a huge OS upgrade will come soon enough though. I cant wait to buy the Nexus 10 though.

Well, iOS seems to me a very simple operating system, and I'm quite sure that Android is far more advanced. However, I don't know if there are many Android apps that can take advantage of the tablet; I may be wrong, but I feel that most Android apps are designed towards smartphones. I guess a Windows laptop could take more profit of a 2560x1600 screen, instead of an Android tablet...
