Ha I was thinking the same but Zoolander! -

I remember the closest thing to that tiny phone, Motorola's Vader phone V3688. Man I loved that thing, it actually fit inside that little tiny sub-pocket in a jeans pocket.

Although I personally disliked the slippery iPhone 6-11 shape, if they're going to make an iPhone air it might make sense for it to have a rounded or wedge profile. It would make it look even slimmer.

Me thinks this thin air phone will be a two-year stepping stone to a flip.

A flip will give mini lovers a small pocket friendly size and will allow Apple to charge big bucks. Win win.

Two birds, one stone.

I like the way you think. Scratch what I said above, this iPhone air could have a profile similar to the later generation iPod touch. So when they transform it into a flip phone in 2-3 years it has soft round outer corners but a sharper edge to the inner screen.

Apple does not care if it flops like the mini. This, like the mini, will serve its purpose well which is to soften the blow of a price hike.

Mini bumped up the reg iPhone up a hundred and this will bump up the pros a hundred.

iPhone 17 air $999
iPhone 17 pro $1099
iPhone 17 pro max $1299

If only iPhones were as light and thin as they once were. Still missing my iPhone 6. Or god forbid an iPhone without the increasingly hideous camera hump.
My favorite description of the camera bump on iPhone Pro–Three burner stove.

Firstly MacRumors stories are getting old this was yesterday’s news on 9to5 Mac.

Secondly if the iPhone Air will lead to a thinner pro in the near future, I have doubts Apple will change the design of the pro models next year.

Given there has been very little rumours about a design change for the pro max besides a narrower Dynamic Island.

Finally Apple is creating market segmentation that is likely to cause greater confusion to the average consumer or lead to a decline in sales in certain lines.

16 Pro is going up to $1099 this year with 256 GB as minimum storage option, so maybe $1199 next year.

I thought the iPhone 17 will get ProMotion based on the rumors. If this iPhone “Air” is positioned above the 17, it will get ProMotion.

Clearly I'm not up on all the rumors (which is shocking given how much time I spend on this site!). That would be fantastic if it's true.

I hope they extend that logic to the iPad Air. ProMotion is the main reason pay the extra for a Pro over an Air.

I mean, do they? Isn't the whole point that the Plus and Mini sold poorly and Apple hasn't been able to come up with a "fourth option" that sells as well as the others? I don't think they'd keep changing what the fourth option was if they considered it a success. Maybe they'll really knock it out of the park this time with the iPhone Air. But so far, they haven't come up with a "killer" fourth iPhone model. I don't think it's unreasonable to be skeptical. Personally, I hope it succeeds, because I'm one of those people who thinks the Pro models have gotten a bit thick and heavy and would like to see them slimmed down. This could be the beginning of that trend.
While the information you've posted is probably accurate, the point is that Apple has probably spent multi-millions in market research to try and find out, compared to the average MacRumors member that probably didn't even read the article.

It’s just becoming very boring. Here’s an idea make it so the data is faster and more reliable whatever that takes to accomplish.

Expecting to see a slimmer iPhone but most probably it will be priced at around $100 more than the 15/16 Plus.

What a great way to do a price hike.

  • The current iPhone Pro will be the future iPhone Air at the same price
  • The future iPhone Pro will be crazy expensive and therefor only for the professionel market (just as it is with the Mac)
So the regular person will own an iPhone Air in the future, as the Pro will be 50% more expensive.

Since the consensus seems to be noone wants it, I'll be the outlier: I will likely hold on to my 13 Mini until I can get this. I don't need the "Pro" features, and I very rarely take pictures with the secondary lens, so one lens is fine. But a standard 15 is very large to me. Battery life on my Mini is not great but "good enough". If this has ProMotion as rumoured, and battery life at least matching the 13 mini, it would be the perfect phone for me. Even without ProMotion, I'd probably still get it.

bring back touchID

On its own, no way in hell, I've had way more bad readings with that compared to Face ID, now if it was used as an optional secondary form of security on top of Face ID then that would be a great addition.

You realize that this rumored iPhone 17 Air/Slim is taller and wider than a standard iPhone 15?

My perfect iPhone would be an iPhone mini slim pro. Take the current thin iPad Pro with its tandem OLED and it cut it down to a mini form factor then jam in the best camera. 📷
