I am debating between this and the iphone5. How futureproof is the nexus4. And lets assume that the nexus4 was priced exactly the same as the iphone5 or at most $100 cheaper. Would it still be worth it?

In my opinion yes. Google is just as good at updating their nexus line as apple is. As far as specs go, you're set for a long time. Apps have yet to completely saturate dual core. The nexus 4 has a quad and 2 gigs of ram. I never have to close any apps and multitasking is smooth as butter. As is the overall OS. I have yet to experience a single stutter. It runs everything flawlessly and gone is the laginess of Android with Jellybean. At least running stock. Manufacture skins like sense and touchwiz can screw that up but even then the experience is still much better. iOS is missing things glaringly obvious that stock android does right out of the box (and no I'm not talking about widgets). Something as simple as deleting a single notification can't be done on iOS. Or not having to go to settings to simply change the screen brightness. It's little things like that makes iOS feel like a dinosaur in some ways. There's a lot more that you'll notice. Google's ecosystem is seemless too. Sign into your google account and all of your contacts, emails, music, documents etc. are all right there. This coming from primarily an iOS user of 4 years. With the nexus 4 you're also guaranteed the next few Android updates. The next of which should be out by late summer.

So would you get the phone if it was $650?

What's the point in pretending it costs the same as the iPhone 5? It doesn't and that's likely a huge factor for many in deciding whether to get it. Why wouldn't you consider value when making a purchase? Is someone forcing you to buy the Nexus 4 at 200% of retail?

In fact yeah they are. Ever heard of the rest of the world?! Not every country has google play stores. And LG sells these phones at full price.

Fair enough, but you could have clarified that in your initial post, may have helped with feedback.

No. I paid $425 for mine new and I likely wouldn't go any higher. Simply because you can get it from google for $299 unlocked whenever it comes back into stock. No way I'd pay a $350 premium. I thought you were talking about subsidized iPhone vs. Nexus 4.

Ordered the 16GB UK version before. Ships in 1-2weeks apparently. Obviously one can't tell how quickly they'll send it but is it usually shorter or longer? Also, £9.99 postage was a little steep!

Anyone wanting the white one?

Why do they insist on doing half black/white Nexus's though? Would look so much better with white front and back IMO.

I would definitely love that. It might make the notification LED easily visible too with a black front. It reminds me of the HTC One X or iPhone 3GS. Sometimes I don't like the white front on my iPhone 5, as the screen doesn't really disappear.

Congrats! Mine's being delivered as well! Excited to try it out - and hopefully get some good tips from this thread :D

Excellent! Finally got my SIM converted over now so fully using the phone.

Only minor irritation so far is the battery percentage - is there anyway to add it?

I just joined the Nexus 4 crowd last night, my phone arrived right before my local AT&T store closed, so luckily I was able to get my account switched over from my iPhone 4S, even after the dumbfounded looks I got from the reps there when I showed them the phone.

I did, and continue, to run into issues with text messaging. Apparently my phone number is still floating around the iCloud servers, so all my friends with iPhones can't text me to my N4. Even after chatting with AT&T, its still like that. Non-iPhones can text me just fine, but those with iOS devices can't, their messages just go to iMessage. Hopefully it'll fix itself soon without me having to call Apple.

I love this phone though, the screen is incredible. It's the perfect size for my big hands. Getting used to the placement of some of the punctuation keys will take some time. Also, is it me or does this thing take forever to charge?

As for accessories, I want to get that wireless charging orb thing that Google is rumored to release here soon. I was planning on leaving the plastic protector that the phone came with on the back, because I am terrible at putting screen protectors on. But the idiot at the AT&T store tried taking the damn thing off and messed it up.

AFAIK you have to make sure that iMessage is switched off on all of your Apple products.

This might help but there is loads of info if you need it by google search.

Hope this helps. :) https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3392014?start=15&tstart=0

Even though I still have other iOS devices, I unchecked my phone number from iMessage on my iPad (not sure how to on my Mac), and turned off iMessage all together on my iPhone. Still, my friends are showing my number as associated with iMessage.

But thanks for the link, I'll keep searching.

On your Mac it would be; Messages>Preferences>Accounts>Sign Out. :)

Hope you enjoy your new phone. :)

I used Notification Toggle to add it to the status bar. But then I installed GSam Battery Monitor which did it too, so I changed Notification Toggle to display the day of the month.

I had the same problem with iMessage when I switched over. As mentioned, make sure your phone number is unckecked/removed from ALL Apple devices (my Mac was the final culprit causing problems--Daveathall's post is spot on for fixing that).

Also, switching over at AT&T was unnecessary--could've just moves the SIM card over. I did that with my iPhone 5 using an adapter and just had to manually update the APN settings and was all set. Did the same thing again with my Note 2.

Best of luck with the Nexus, definitely a great looking phone.

Power Toggles, mon ami.

Great widget in itself, but also offers battery percentage at the top.

That's the Power Widget there in the middle, and the matching blue batt. percentage at the top left.
