I've got a Nexus 5 and I recently bought a macbook air. I'm thinking I want an iPhone but I just want to trade. Should I try for an iPhone 5 or 5s? Someone offered me a 5. But I don't know how much of step back that is from the Nexus 5.

Cost for cost I doubt anyone will offer a 5s. iPhone 5 and macbook air is a good combination (currently typing on my week old one).
I haven't had an iPhone since the iPhone 3G. But now that I've got the macbook I'm really considering iPhone again. I'm heavily invested in everything google but I didn't know that all the apps (google now, google+, hangouts, etc.) I have on my nexus 5 are also on iPhone. So I may talk to the guy again about the iPhone 5.

I wouldn't unless 5 or 5s is unlock. Since Nexus 5 is unlock, you free to choose what carrier for it, especially if you want off-contract.

Just curious, but what element of the MBA exactly is making you think you'll be better off with the iPhone?
I use Macs and presently use an iPhone but never had any problem using Android devices with them. I do like how it's easier to stay synced with my iPhoto library using iDevices but otherwise, haven't had any problems with my Macs playing nice with any of my Android phones/tablets.
