The rumored specs of the Nexus 5 still would make me choose it over all the ones you mentioned even if they were all the same price. GN3? No way. Hate Samsung. HTC One Max? No thank you. I already have a Nexus 7, a 6" HTC Phone is not something I would need. And one handed phone use wouldn't be good. LG G2? Probably the only one I would even remotely consider. But I hate LG's skin. So no thank you.

I feel the same way. If I wanted one of those other phones, I'd already have one of them. I'm not interested in the Nexus because of its price: I prefer the Nexus experience, as long as there are no glaring hardware issues.

Let's hope the nexus 5 camera is an improved one, I've been hearing really good reviews about the G2 its battery life and camera so expecting the same thing from the Nexus 5

I've always said that camera quality on the phones I buy wasn't a huge deciding factor for me, but man, the HTC One really has a horrible camera.

As another poster said, the N5 is rumored to have a 2300mAh battery. It really shouldn't be an issue; my HTC One has a 2300mAh battery as well and it lasts me through the day. Plus, the processor in the N5 is supposedly better when it comes to battery life.

The N4 was my first android and it has been a very pleasant experience my only complaint was the camera, coming from an iPhone 5 it sucked big time so I'm ok with the 2300 battery lol just an improved camera is all I need , I can't see myself using anything other than stock android and won't consider an iPhone until the screen gets a bit larger

Maybe because an announcement is around the corner but I'm excited about this phone. Can't wait to see what Google has to offer.

Well it won't have quite the same battery life since the Nexus 5 will have a larger screen area to power.

Been hearing Oct 15th for an announcement date.... I'm excited about everything but I'm afraid the next Nexus will have LG Gs2 dumb button placement.

Nah, there are a lot of leaked prototype pics and even a 7 minute video. No rear placed buttons. I think the big question right now is if it will have the 3000mah battery upgrade, or not.

Hopefully the snapdragon800 has something to say about that
Screen is typically the highest on the list of Android battery stats.

Same resolution though. I really don't know how much of a difference that'll really make.
The larger the screen area, the more powerful the backlight needs to be.

My money is on it having a 2300 mAh battery. Google always ends up screwing up something on the Nexus phones.

I read or heard somewhere that it's expected to be 2300 which would be a huge dissappointment.

Thanks for all your input guys!

So what do you think about the rumor that we will see the Nexus tomorrow? I have never followed Googles releases, so the only thing I know is that they previously have had events for the Nexus, but that last year Sandy made them cancel it.

I'm just thinking there should be a couple more sources on the 15th now, not only a developer on a conference.

Yeah I suspect that as well. The 3000mah rumor was pretty weak, and the "leaked" picture of the 3000mah battery ended up being the LG G2 battery.

Makes me feel good about my LG G2. The only reason to go to the N5 at that point would be to have Kit Kat, but seeing how Google is decoupling everything that shouldn't be an issue soon. If they do release a launcher on the app store that would change everything.

Why is 2300 mAh battery a screw up? You don't even know how it will preform yet. I don't know that we can say it is bad yet. Now it may very well not perform well, but we truly have no idea. Just give it a chance. HTC One has the same size battery, and I have no issue at all making it through the day, and I consider myself a moderate to heavy user.

I'm hopeful that they'll announce it tomorrow. They announced the new HP Chromebook on the blog last Tuesday. If it doesn't happen tomorrow, and there is going to be an event on the 31st, then invites should be going out soon. Either way it won't be much longer!

Haha you wana get back into this? Don't you remember what happened last time, buddy? ;-)

A 2300 mAh battery is pretty weak for a 5" phone with a 1080p screen and a Snapdragon 800. Sure, the CPU might be more efficient. But that doesn't use up as much battery as the screen. And with a larger backlight than the HTC One, the Nexus 5's screen will use more power. Plus another reason the HTC One has a 2300 mAh battery is because it has a smaller screen. Smaller screen typically means smaller device. Smaller device means less volume to put a battery. Can Google fit a larger battery than 2300 mAh in the Nexus 5? Yes. Look at the G2, Xperia Z1, and Droid Maxx. Google can, they are just skimping.

Sure, we don't know how it will perform with a 2300 mAh battery. But consider this. The Optimus G had the same CPU, GPU, screen, and battery as the Nexus 4 and it ran LGs skin. Even with all of that it got MUCH better battery life than the Nexus 4 despite all the specs being the same. We don't know how it will perform. But if history has taught us anything, it is that the Nexus smartphone will have a subpar battery life compared to others it will compete against.

Your history is the nexus 4 right? The HTC One, Nexus S, and Gnex all had pretty good battery life. For the time they were all in line with the flagships of the time.

You may say I told you so after the reviews are out, but at this point you don't know anything in terms of battery life. Saying it will be a screw up before it is release is just dumb. Wait to see how it performs first. Google may surprise you.

I don't like the 2300 battery either, but I get quite good battery life with my 2100 SGS3, although the display is 720P.

HTC One has decent battery life. Nothing outstanding like the G2, Maxx, or Note series. Just decent.

Nexus 4 battery life sucks. GNEX was awful too. Google has a bad history with battery life. And with such a minimal increase this time around, don't expect amazing battery life like the phone the Nexus 5 will be based on.

Realistically, we can expect about 75% of the battery life the G2 gets. Although that would assume a one to one ratio per mAh. The fact is, it doesn't work that way. Optimus G and Nexus 4 have the exact same specs. Same screen, CPU, GPU, RAM, and battery capacity. With everything being the same, you'd expect similar battery life. Except the Optimus G gets much better battery life. So if that is the case again, the Nexus 5 won't even get 75% of the battery life of the G2.

All we have to go on right now is other phones with similar hardware and Google's history. None of which point in favor of the Nexus 5 having outstanding battery life like it's base has.

Well taking crazy numbers just for the hell of it. The G2 having 23.5 hours of talk time at 3000mah would translate to 18 hours of talk time with a 2300mah. Take 75% of that and you have 13 hours, which is still well above the iphone 5's 8-9 hours. I know they are just made up numbers, but it's still interesting to plug them in and see how they work out.

If it does have the 2300mah battery it better be thin as heck.

Not exactly true, while android OS reports in battery stats that screen uses the most, the SOC and the Cell radio are actually responsible for most of the power drain. You can test this by leaving the phone in airplane mode and setting the display timeout to never and leaving the device idle. It will last extremely long. Yes this was tested with an LCD screen not an amoled screen.

Like I said you can come back and say I told you so if the battery life is crap, but I prefer to wait and for myself. I know you seem to have this negative view of the nexus line, and I can understand some of that because you did not have the greatest experience. I just know from my experience with now 3 different nexus devices. Not all of the have bad battery life.

I am going to buy, and enjoy this phone even if things are not 100% perfect. I know there will never be a phone like that. If you choose to believe the nexus 5 will have problems before it is even release. Then by all means do so.
