Since Google does typically skimp on some areas to keep costs down, that is another likely possibility. Which wouldn't help in an argument saying that the Nexus 5 will have much improved battery life as Google might be doing the same thing this year.

And with GPE phones, they use all the same hardware as their skinned cousin. Whereas the Nexus 4 had all the same major specs, but not all the same hardware.

In which case, this actually makes me even more skeptical of the N5 battery life as Google skimping on quality batteries makes sense to keep costs down.

With the CyanogenMOD argument stated by another member, it shows the same issues as the GPE argument. Maybe drivers aren't the cause, it could very well just be cheaper cells in the batteries. It makes the most sense. How else could Google produce a phone that they can sell for almost $300 less than a [seemingly] identical phone?

The cost cutting makes the most sense. But maybe Google learned their lesson and didn't skimo on stuff, hence the $50 extra tacked onto the price for the baseline N4 vs N5. The cost of memory chips has gone down and I would imagine that the S4 Pro price vs S800 price for the CPU to have stayed relatively the same (like the new iPad price stays the same as the one it replaces)

The technology used in the these products should theoretically be cheaper, plus plastic is cheaper than glass, so that should also cut some cost off of the BOM of the Nexus 5. So basically we are going to end up paying $50 more than we did last year for an entry level device, that might mean better parts.

While the Nexus 5 has less mah than the battery in the G2, the cells could be higher quality, meaning they last longer.

I have a cheap 1600 mah battery for my Airsoft gun and a quality 1200 mah battery for that same gun. You would think the 1600 would last longer, but the 1200 actually does. Why? The battery is of a higher quality

Wait..

Its happening?

Confirmed by Google?

TOMORROW IS THE DAY?!?!?!?

Did the layout at the Play store change? I'm referring to choosing the storage size of devices? It seems to have been updated for the Nexus 7.

Right you are, before they would link you to a specific page for each new storage size via some hyperlinked pictures below the product

Little interesting tidbit of news.....

I just called my local Best Buy to see if they would have it in stock... The woman I talked to spoke to a manager and said that the Nexus 5 is exclusive to the Google Play store online...

The strangest part is that she didn't say "What's that?" Or " That product doesn't exist"

So it seems Best Buy employees might have some knowledge of the product!

LG Optimus G gets better battery life than a Nexus 4 despite it having the exact same specs.

That was do to a poorly designed heatsink on the nexus 4 compared to the optimus g and the lack of one of the radio amplifiers that the optimus g had that the nexus lacked. This time around it won't be that way.

Where is that confirmed? Everything I have seen says announcement tomorrow... On sale Friday

Wow, Google really prefers to have the Nexus 5 fly under the radar, launching same day as new iPad will get completely drowned out.

I know this is pure speculation but why so hushed on this release? Could it possibly be because supplies are tight?

I sure hope that is not the case.

Artem Russakovskii (sp?) from Android Police has basically confirmed that the Nexus 5 is dropping tomorrow! It is on his G+ page. He has been extremely reliable and is always very honest and conservative about his rumors (not just trying to hype people).

I'm still concerned about the size (I think it is taller than every non-phablet phone besides the G2). But I will reserve judgement until I can handle one in person and I am still ridiculously excited :D

KitKat on Halloween. Wellllll, I guess it did make sense. I was in denial for a long time. Nestle is about to make A LOT of money tomorrow! Woah.
