Whilst we wait for the iPhone 6 to drop there are rumours of NFC.

I'm not sure if its a coincidence but here in the UK a bank called the "Halifax" is upgrading there banking app with "new design" and "new features".

Its marked as coming soon and I can't help but think maybe this new App will coincide with the iPhone and fall in line with NFC.

I only bank with the Halifax but would be interested to see if anyone else has seen this with their banks.

I also wonder if they maybe they are just going to link it all via passbook maybe and has nothing to do with NFC.

or nothing at all

The thing is, Apple have the nous and the customer faith to implement something like NFC.

I'm still not personally convinced by the merits of NFC yet, but perhaps that's because I've never used it (been on iPhone since 2007).

I must confess to not actually knowing the full ins & outs of NFC, will it for example, allow me to add the 4 banks cards I currently carry in my wallet, onto my phone and pay using the relevant one at a suitably equipped NFC terminal?

I think a lot of the banks are getting onboard with PayM: http://www.paym.co.uk/ so maybe that's the reason for the update/upgrade?

BTW, I'm not saying you're wrong re NFC. :)

You're probably right.

As for payments go I'd happily use my Apple ID as a secure payment method. Just let your Apple ID work like PayPal.

I would assume your cards would pop up in Passbook and you select which one to pay with. Seems the easiest way.

Would be clever if you specificity use one type of card for, say, Fuel. Then iBeacons would push that card to the home screen as a default card to use based on your settings.

Having had a look at the Halifax website the features they are pushing are similar to the update Lloyds Bank recently rolled out:

http://www.halifax.co.uk/aboutonline/mobile-banking/update/

Sadly there's no NFC inclusion yet.

Yep, works for me too.

That sounds quite cool.

I have 4 x cards, in terms of physical use, I use my personal bank account one the most, followed by my joint account card, then my business card and lastly my Amex card (although the Amex card gets used almost exclusively online, as it gives me 1.5% cashback!).
