Now that MLB has perhaps the best app of ALL TIME, who fell asleep over at the NFL? Why is there at least an official NFL app? Ideally they would allow for some time of audio/video streaming. They should model after MLB. A HUGE missed opportunity for $$ for the NFL and APPLE.
The only one who could make such an app is the NFL itself since it involves broadcasts and whatnot. Difference is MLB has a dedicated "advanced media" team to do the website, the app, gameday audio, video, mlb.tv, etc. NFL has websites that look like they were made in 1998. You do the math...
Downloaded the (excellent-looking) Wimbledon 2009 App yesterday and it got me thinking about stuff like this... I wish the Premier League would do something similar... even if they charged like £5-£10 for it, I think there'd be a HUGE market for the App, if it came with push updates of scorelines, video highlights, etc etc...
It's funny how they used to say that baseball was behind the times but they have embraced the internet more than other sports. NFL should learn from MLB. That way I can watch my Cowboys all the time.
I was with my mom at a Sprint store a few days ago and the sales people kept saying that exact same thing. According to what they said, Sprint has an exclusive deal with the NFL and cell phone content. To bad for the NFL because I know I would put down $10.00 in a heartbeat for a NFL app like the MLB one.
The need to explore all markets... a $9.99 NFL app similar to the MLB app would sell like CRAZY. They would be losing money by not making an app.
It's unfortunate. On the bright side, it was a five year deal that is up in 2010 so maybe next season. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122592543148702857.html
its to bad really ... the NFL has exclusives with Direct TV and Sprint .. .well Direct TV isnt as bad as Sprint they are certainly missing out on TONS AND TONS of revenue... but what do we know we are only fans...
