£1000 Million = £1 Billion

Don't know where these other figures are coming from.

And, yes if it went to open source or Apple (we can hope) it would cost a LOT,LOT less.

The NHS is an amazing organsation, its just a bit like Russia.

Every day is a new crisis.

didn't see Blue Velvet's post saying essentially the same as mine, must've clicked reply and spent so long typing it......

combat colin, it seems there are a few of us that have grown up believeing a UK billion is a million million, not a thousand million as you wrote...maybe it's an old thing, how old are you? teens? early 20s?

According to this site the UK spends $1675 per capita per year on health care whereas the US spends $4271 per capita. My guess is that government spending on health care is about equal. Of course in the UK everyone is covered unlike in the US.

Whatever the values are, the US spends more money on healthcare than anywhere else, and yet get the least back. The pay in America may have something to do with it, but it's probably just some strange conspiracy that fixes prices high.

28.

Can't remember what a trillion is, 10,000 million? maybe.

Can't be massively, massively huge as the US is often quoted as having a trillion dollar defence budget.

In a recent audit of UK goverment property the most expenive items were the 4 Tridents with a market value of something like £1.4 Billion each.

One trillion = 1000 Billion = 1000*1000*1 Million = 1 Million Million.

It's not surprising, with the shambles that is most things in this country, that the NHS could swallow $100bn a year on IT. Doesn't look like that figures going down if they're choosing Microsoft  ;)

What I don't understand - maybe someone can enlighten me - is this: with all this recent negative publicity about Windows, and all the viruses, worms and spyware issues - why is every company seeing now as the perfect time to go Windows?

Well thats just bloody ****ing brilliant.

We go on a 14 month waiting list, then as soon as we actually get treatment our life support will crash. Wanting a driver reinstallation.

Clever Britain, very clever. Its amazing that for a country which is still such a huge influence in the world, a country which produces a large majority of the best designers, architects, engineers, nuclear physicians, astrophysicists, the best musicians, artists, painters, writers, comedians and poets. Its amazing that we are so fundamentally crap at spending our money.

When we dont spend it on a huge tent in Greenwich or a football stadium, we spend it destroying what was once by far the best health service in the world. Thanks to hard working doctors and nurses its still relatively decent though.

Maybe its just Blairs' way of getting people to look after themselves more, theyll scare us into not binge drinking and smoking.

The problem is companies are using Windows already, so they're choosing to remain with Windows rather than going to Windows as it were. Blame it on ignorance, the huge amounts of money they must have already invested, the FUD provided by Microsoft or the Stockholm Syndrome (!) but it's amazing that so many companies/people are making conscious decisions to go with Windows.
