My Iphone X has a feature that you can put the phone in night mode and allow only selected callers to call through while you are sleeping. The problem is that there is no indication in the upper task bar indicating that the feature is on. I missed some calls and couldn't figure out why. Looks like I forgot to take it out of night mode. Stupid that I forgot, but IOS should provide an indicator at the top, like my other Iphones had. End of rant. Irritating.

Are you referring to the DND mode? (Not the same as DND while driving) I have mine set to automatically enable and disable from 11pm - 7 AM... you are correct the X does not have a status indicator.... I have an apple watch and it mirrors the DND mode on my phone so it has never been an issue... but i can see how this would be frustrating.

I ended my using this mode when my father in law died and they tried so hard to reach us that they had to drive over. I was so embarrassed. Never again

Interesting. There is a toggle labeled "Repeated Calls" under the Do not Disturb settings to avoid this very problem. In fact I believe by default this is enabled. It was created for this specific scenario. The first call won't ring but a 2nd call will break through the DND setting and ring regardless.

There are 3 options to safeguard against this.
  • Allow repeated calls
  • Add friends and family to the exception list called "allow calls from" and add your favorites list (add your friends and family to this list.)
  • Sent an individual contact's Ring/text tone to "emergency bypass) you can do this from contacts
There you have it, three ways to enjoy this feature without worry of missing important calls.

There is an option, if someone calls again within 3 minutes the second call will not be silenced.

Edit: Got beaten by the post above:p

Thanks for reminding me that you can set a schedule for DND. Although a DND icon does appear in the CC status bar, on a couple of occasions I have forgotten to disable it in the morning.

Thanks for recommending the solution. I had forgot about the auto enable/disable. Still would like to see a visual like they used to have and probably still do up to the X.

Sadly this did not work. My Heart was so broken anyway and it was compounded by the fact my husband wasn't notified sooner. I just don't want to chance it ever again.

It’s not really a chance. If you set it up properly then it’d work properly. I think most people have it set to auto anyway.

It also can make your phone not ring period. This night mode is too buggy
Do Not Disturb? It works as described. If you have it set up correctly and know what to expect (as in when its active and what calls, if any, are allowed to go through) there's generally issues.

On the iPhone X, all previously used icons are still available, albeit accessed in a different way. If you open Control Center by swiping down on the right ear, you'll see the icons just like you would on the other phones, right along the top.

That’s what @OP is complaining about. DND has a moon shaped icon (obviously this is why @OP described the problem as night mode. To all the people nit picking terminology, @OP made an honest mistake and you should get over it and be helpful) that should be clearly visible on the X’s main screen and not tucked inside CC. I have had friends an family complain about not getting calls only to discover they had accidentally enabled DND. With all previous iPhones that supported DND, it was clearly visible when DND had been enabled by glancing at the screen even when the phone was locked.

On the x the CC must be pulled down which is frankly, redundant considering the icon is already right there and lit up when enabled.

Part of it all is also setting up DND to ones liking so one knowns what to expect when it is active and when its not.

So do texts come through from favourites?
DND only has controls for calls and no other notifications, not even messages unfortunately.

OMG. I had the same issue. I always turn on DND before sleeping. Forgot to turn it back on once and you where the story goes from there.
I wish iOS 12 will have an option to show if you have DND turned on, somewhere on the look screen. Like around the date (under the time).

Hopefully an option for that kind of thing will be added at least to the lock screen in some fashion. In the meantime, might be good to have a schedule set up for DND so that it gets disabled on its own at a particular time even if you might forget to do it yourself.

The only problem I'm having with the schedule set up is that I can't seem to find a way to have different time options for weekend and weekdays. I want DND to be off at 7am on Weekdays, but I only want DND to go off at 12pm during the weekends.
