I've started a new exercise /running routine, I'm so looking forward to getting it next week. :D

However, I won't be buying Nike shoes, instead gonna do this mod.

I went out and got two of these kits today and so far i'm very impressed, as is the recipient of the other.

If this doesn't inspire me to run, i may as well give up.

"Gadget of the Week", call me cynical but do we really need a gadgat of the week?

....it's the TIME MAGAZINE gadget of the week - not the MacRumor gadget of the week...

I agree. I'm not much of a runner. I tend to find it boring and the fact that I'm not soooooo fit doesn't help. BUT, I got one last week and I've run five days this week. At least it gives me a baseline to get after myself.

Well I have the kit and my sneakers will arrive on Mon!

But I was just staring at the kit and decided to put it in my laces (tightly) and run maybe a mile. I got about 1/3 of a mile...looked down and my sensor was gone:eek:

I traced my steps back, and luckily not tooo far and found it:D

I will now not use it until my Nike Moire's (black and blue) come in!

...but it does seem pretty cool and I have come to find out that I am desperately out of shape.

Well i've completed 2 runs with nike + shoes and overall I think the kit is great, although i have noticed some discrepencies...

1) At the end of each run there is a 'flick' (when viewing the run on nike+ website) which claims my pace has increased to 1 minute per mile:confused: It doesn't affect any of the averages though.

2) The second run i did at 9.30pm, it says this on the nano. However, on the nike website it says 2.30pm, so again  The first run I did is shown correctly on the website so it can't be a time zone issue.

And 3) The distance goal seems a little odd, when trying it out for a 5 mile target, i ran 1 and then synced up, however the site only shows that i have run 0.6 miles.

Anyhow, overall the accuracy is still ok and when these small problems are worked out this kit will be absolutly brilliant. Hopefully i've had the last of the issues.

I certainly will keep using it.

This gadget is awesone!!! I took it with my travelling and had to put it to sleep. I had a hard time waking it up. Hard to tell if it in sleep mode or regular mode.

I talked up the gadget with some co-workers and when I had to use, I lost some cool points. When it started to work, I sold them on it again. Might look into some nike stock and even more apple stock!!!

here is a question:
can you cut out a hole in an exisiting pair of shoes to accomodate the transmitter? is there any particular reason why it must be nike + shoes?

You don't necessarily need to have the nike + shoes...if you're are daring enough to cut up your shoes then more power to you:D

There have been other modifications discussed such as putting the chip in the tounge of the shoe and also velcroeing the chip to the shoe, these things still should work...or just be creative.

These Nike + shoes may have a price tag, but they are so comfortable and so hassle free that... your call.

The Nike+ website however is a little inconsistent. I just completed my first 5K workout and it hasnt appeared on my record section.

Cheap substitute:

Treadmill
Paper & Pen
Microsoft Excel

But I suppose the price tag is worth it. :) $30 is quite cheap, although I wish Apple had created a stand-alone application to track your progress, so you needn't go online to Nike.com and such. Seems rather redundant, and just seems like another opportunity to pester your eyes with checkmark logos and photos of Lance Armstrong.

As for me, I don't believe they even sell the kit in China, and I'm not going to give up my Asics, so I'll stick to the paper & pen approach.

the nike + shoes are pretty comfortable. i tried on the 10/2 ones yesterday. They still dont come close to matching the comfort of my Asics Kayanos. I am slightly weary of cutting open the sole of the shoes but I think I will give it a try. I will let you know how it goes.

I did it to my New Balance in about 20 minutes. Can't tell its in there.

For crying out loud

Please, learn the proper use of "it's" and "its". It's not that difficult and you owe it to this board and its members. Get it?

 You've got to be freakin' kidding me. You're that worried about a minor grammar error in a web forum?

I'm not worried, I'm irritated. I expect better from journalist wannabes. What's next, incorrect usage of "their" and "there"?

So you think everyone on this board is a journalist wannabe?? I believe its there prerogative if they want to have proper grammar or not... :D

Also for people wanting to know more about the Nike+ system there is a lot of discussion going on over at the apple discussion board. Hopefully this link won't time out...

Ipod Sport Idea for Non Nike Wearers

I can't wear Nikes because of my ankle problems. I put the Ipod Chip into my Shoewallet, www.shoewallet.com can also be found at Amazon.com, and it worked perfectly. Has anyone done the same with a shoewallet? Or does anyone have any other ways they have used the Ipod Sport Chip with non-Nike shoes?

Nike's Shoe Wallet is cheaper than the one listed above ($8). It looks good and works perfectly with the Nike+iPod Kit. There's a review of it on my site.

Also, if you look at the Amazon listing for the product endorsed above, their only "customer" reviews consist of five 5-star reviews all posted on July 14th, and one 5-star review posted on the 15th. Quite suspicious.

There are several articles on my site about how to use the Sport Kit with non-Nike shoes (and they don't involve digging a hole in your shoe, either).

Here's the Nike Shoe Wallet on my shoe:

is there a hack to make this work with any of the other ipods, or is it going to be proprietary. I would like it to work on my 3g and don't really need a new ipod, nor would get a nano at this point.
