Anyone else noticed distance calibration issues ON OUTSIDE RUNS! My standard 5K loop registered as 3.35 miles this morning after the new app auto-downloaded itself last night. I'm used to distances being off a bit, but 6-7 percent is unacceptable.

Even more frustrating, is the fact it says coaching program says four weeks of coaching is the minimum. However, as you point out about, it refuses to let a user set up a training program even for the end of October. I lost my marathon coach progress too, and it will not let me set up the new coach because there's not enough time left. But we still have to run, even nike refuses to coach us for a marathon scheduled earlier than mid-November.

Luckily, I started migrating away from Nike+ a year ago. I used the excellent RunGap app to import all five years of runs from Nike+, then exported them to both Strava, RunKeeper and SmashRun. Then I started using iSmoothRun for the runs. I can't recommend iSmoothRun enough, it's such a configurable, nice app! And its power usage is amazing low, I've ran 35 km runs with BT heart monitor connected and still had lots of battery left. Precision of tracking is also top notch.

I've kept exporting to Nike+ because I still liked their interface, but now I hardly see the point anymore.

Strava is by far the best overall solution, but I still recommend iSmoothRun for the run recording. I then use the strava app and website to analyze my runs afterwards.

Be warned, as pretty as this update looks, it will wipe a lot of your data. Reports of people losing all their trophies / mileage etc. I was several weeks into a coach program for an October half marathon and my progress is gone. I now cant set up a program for the same race as its deemed too soon. This is a very frustrating situation for a lot of people. The app is far slower to load and training programs have been completely re-worked making current programs very hard to transition over.

I am so, so angry. Years of data lost. I'd use it for kilometre splits comparison purposes on all the different routes I ran in different countries. Now it's just gone. I'd turned all the useless features off because I don't need motivational rubbish, or trophies, or whatever. I just wanted pace, topography and all of it plotted on a map with GPS. Now it's all gone. It used to be my daily app and now I'm deleting it and finding something else to replace it. I'll happily pay $50 for something that doesn't arbitrarily decide it wants to turn into a social media app.

Thanks for the tips. I'm checking them out now.

I still have my runs logged but it seems that all the gps data except where I start and stop my runs are gone.

I just checked and found the same thing. Luckily I've been exporting everything to Strava, but that would suck to re-enter or lose all that data. Unfortunately, it looks like the desktop website is just as broken as always, so you don't get the option to do it there. I'm pretty sure I've gotten the "unable to connect to our servers" message more times than I've been able to log into Nike+. :-/

Can confirm the update released yesterday (v5.0.1) brings back all logged shoe data. Yay!

"Users will also be able to use the companion Apple Watch app independently of the iOS app, since the new update allows users to "run free" and leave their iPhone behind."

A lot of running and iOS sites are saying that this is because Nike are anticipating the Apple Watch 2, which is expected to have built-in GPS.

Maybe, but you can now run without your iPhone even with the current Apple Watch (no GPS). You get pace, distance, time and heart rate on screen and saved to the phone app. (but no map). In its place you get a cool 360 degree graphic showing your pace variation over your run.

This is a smart move by Nike because the only other app that does this is Runkeeper. In fact I was about to switch to Runkeeper because Nike+ didn't offer this, and Strava still doesn't and is hopelessly inaccurate for the first 500m of every run (even with GPS). This way they will lock in both existing and future AW users.

Have been testing for a few days now, apart from a few minor bugs and re-installs it is now working well on both watch and phone, I didn't lose my past data or my shoe records, but I do miss the old colour scheme and the awards for setting records.

But being able to choose whether to take my iPhone with me or leave it at home is a big winner for me. I tested the built in accelerometer using the Apple Watch Activity app without iPhone over my daily 5.49km run recently and it measured 5.36km, which is OK for me. I presume Nike+ taps into this data.

Yep. I usually do 4 miles every night, and now the app is reporting about 4.2.

My app "updated" without even prompting me for permission. Thanks Nike Plus for taking an app I loved and bragged about and turning it into crap.
•With the new version, my music went from working wonderfully to not working at all. Great update!
•My Distance and times were spot on and now with this "update" are complete crap. Oh really, I ran that mile in 2 and a half minutes?!?? And the one before that was 4 minutes??
•My past 4 runs have not "synced" (as it states). The only thing that's not "synced" is adding my run to my total miles.... But I'm sure that turning an actual running app into a now social media app is somehow more important than delivering function for what I actually downloaded it for.

Must be another ploy to "force" people into buying more, unreliable/bait-and-switch technology. I can "Run free" without your stupid Apple Watch. Just saying!
