So, the rain stopped and the temps dropped so I ran outside. I did not wear a chest HR strap. I ran the Nike+ GPS 100% on my iPhone 6 and used the Apple App for "run outside". It did give me a warning to (paraphrasing) "bring my phone with me for calibration". I didn't set anything, not sure if you need to. I dismissed the warning and hit start....This is my result (no making fun of my pace, I'm a slow runner - and today was a nice easy pace day for me). As you can see Nike picked up the my HR somewhere,

And here is the summary from the Apple Workout on my iPhone. Another interesting thing, Nike says 4.31 miles while Apple says 4.26 miles. I would think they should be exactly the same. No? Oh, you know what....the time is slightly off. I'm assuming that was from the 3-4 red lights I had to stop at. Nike does auto pause and likely the Apple does not. That may have screwed with the distance a tiny bit. I assume that is why the pace is off as well. 2-3 min of zero movement.

I just got back from a run and still no HR data in Nike app. There's got to be some obscure setting somewhere.

1. Start Workout app on Watch
2. Start Nike app on phone (previously started on Watch)
3. Run
4. Stop Nike app on phone
5. Stop Workout app

I'm curious, those that have HR data in Nike app (I think only 2 people so far in this thread), are you seeing this screen in the Nike app? It can be found if you go to Settings, then click the little "i" next to "Apple Watch". As you can see, it's saying that Apple doesn't allow devs to access HR sensor.

I'm sending all my data from all my exercise apps (that do it) to the Apple Health app AND MyNetDiary (a food/calorie app).

Since data runs "both ways" (my understanding is it runs both ways) on the Health app, I'm assuming that the Nike app is picking up the HR from there. Not from the Watch. The Watch is sending it to the Health app and Nike is getting it from the Health App.

That is just a guess.

Now running both the Apple exercise app and the Nike at during the same run, screws with my MyNetDiary app as is it gives me credit for both...lol...don't I wish. Odd that I get 444 calories for this last run from Apple, and 597 from Nike. However the Apple app is actually 533 calories total (active and resting) so that is actually pretty close.

Like most I've never been able to have the heart rate from the watch integrated with my nike+ running app on the phone. This afternoon I spent a while going through various settings in every place I could think to look on both the watch as well as the phone and didn't find anything I felt it needed to be different for it to work. The mystery remains....

Plan on running again this evening with both my watch and phone so I'll report back if it happens to work this time.

Well...I don't plan on continuing with both. I really haven't gotten to the point of wanting to use HR monitoring during exercise. And if I do, I'll just use a chest strap (that will tie to Nike).

I've been using the Nike+ GPS for several years and at this point, plan to continue to use it as my running app.

I just saw where Spotify plans to integrate with Nike in the near future. Cool feature. But more importantly that Nike is continue to develop and improve the app (they have had some really bad upgrades recently).

But using both throws my Calorie tracker off. And I still use that to watch my weight.

I send all ,y data too and I can't seem to replicate getting the Nike to show the heart rate. Maybe there is some other setting somewhere the rest of us are missing? I might try deleting and reinstalling the Nike app and trying that.

I would really like to have heart rate data integrated with my running if the workout app could do this and show me gps I would do away with Nike even with as much data as I have through the years.

The only other thing I can think of, is before every having my AW, I bought a BT HR Chest strap to work with the Nike+ App. I ran with it on occasion just to get a base...see where I'm at and such.

Setting up the app w/the BT Chest strap maybe "triggered/activated" it to always look for HR?

I'm wondering if the OP every used a HR Strap with the Nike+ app???

I'm thinking that BT HR chest strap must have something to do with it. Can't figure out any other reason (at least yet).

give this a try

I have not tested this yet (I am at work). Someone can try this and report back.

If you go to the Heath App on the iPhone > Vitals > Heart Rate > Share Data with: Running, it may work.

I plan on trying when I get home but that will not be for a few hours.

Ok i thought i would chime in here.
Yesterday i went for a quick 3 miler with my new watch. (42mm SSSBLB).
using the OP's instructions I started the AW running app first then went back to the AW Nike+ app and started it.
NO HEART RATE :) Only calories
Today i went for another 3 miler.
Started the Nike+ app on the iPhone and once the countdown finished I went to the AW running app and started an open run. Once I was finished I looked at my phones Nike app and sure enough, heart rate data!!!!!
from memory, i have all data shared with "Running" in the health app under sources it lists my iPhone and my AW i can provide pics if it helps.....

try starting the Nike+ app on the phone first, then once it starts go to the AW and start your running app. don't do anything with Nike+ on the AW works for me doing it like this

I'll give his a try on my next run; maybe tomorrow.

Have you ever had a HR sensor paired with your phone before?

no, if i did, i would go into Bluetooth and hit the "i" and choose forget this device.....
unless you plan on using both. I did download a cool little app called hear rate that you place your finger over the camera and it looks for your Heart Rate. Its pretty accurate (within 3-4 BPM) and i wanted to see how accurate the AW was

Just thought I would add that I went for another run today. Started the Nike+ app on my phone. Then started a basic (open) run on my AW. once completed I had HR data in my Nike+ app review.....
My watch shipped with 1.01 software any phone and Nike+ are both up to date

Didn't work for me. I started Nike+ app on phone, then started Open Run on AW. Then stopped run on AW, then stopped run on Nike+. Still no HR data in Nike+.

Have you ever had a HR monitor connected to your phone? The 2 other people in this thread that have HR data show in Nike+ had HR monitors connected in the past, I believe.

No, i have never had a heart rate monitor connected to my phone. I am ending the run in the Nike+ app on the phone BEFORE i end the run on my AW running app. I went for another run today and did not receive heart rate data in my Nike+ app. Today is the first day that i did not take a HR reading on the AW while i was running. so maybe that has something to do with it. Normally i scroll thru the "pace", "distance", etc., etc. and take a HR reading but i didn't do that today. I will go again tomorrow and start and stop everything just like before except this time i will take a measurement while its active and see if that matters

I should add the only heart rate monitor i have ever used was a chest strap model with a Garmin/TomTom//Nike+ fitness watch. but it was several years ago and it doesn't pair with iPhones (no bluetooth)

first pic is yesterdays run, followed by todays run. No judgement of my pace!!! I don't think this is too bad for an overweight 40 year old smoker :)

On another note, does anyone know how to get "resting" calories to show up in the dashboard of the fitness app on iPhone??? my totals are there when you look at activity, but when you look at all the different dashboards, there's no info for resting calories

I think the solution is to swipe thru on the apple watch and let it take a few different HR readings. Once I did that my HR showed up in the Nike+ app WHILE I was running

I figured out how to get the Heart rate to work on Nike Plus. when you first select New Run from the iPhone app there is a screen full of Options, such as Basic Run, Set Distance, Etc. At the Bottom there is a setting for Run Settings. If you select that at the very top it shows Heart rate with a slider. if you slide that to On then as long as you use that Activity app on the watch it will send the Heart rate to the activity app and Nike Running will read it from the Activity App. Once I toggled Heart Rate to on in the Nike App I get Heart Rate. I don't even have to open the Nike Running app on my watch.

Hi, just thought I'd follow this up and confirm that what Yevinn said previously is absolutely correct. It's frustrated me for a few weeks and have really wanted to get the heart rate working with the Nike+ Running GPS App. I finally got it working this morning and am really pleased and can now use the heart rate sensor as it was intended!

To get the heart rate tracking to work, you'll need to go on the Nike app on your iPhone, then tap begin run and then run settings. On the next page you need to ensure the heart rate toggle is switched on.

Then if you switch to the Health app on your iPhone, go to the heart rate pane and tap on share data. On this page you'll need to make sure the share data with Nike toggle switch is on.

Finally on the sources tab at the bottom of the Health app ensure all categories are turned on for the Nike app.

When starting my run I started an outdoor run on the native Apple Watch Workout app and then started a run via the Nike Running Apple Watch app. You can discard the Apple Watch outdoor run once you've finished and it won't affect the heart rate readings taken during the run. Happy running :)
