I'm interested in the Nike Edition of the Apple Watch SE - because I think the bands would be better for working out than the standard band. Yet, it's not listed on Amazon (so therefore not part of the $20 off right now). Even target lists the Nike Watch as Release Date: No release date yet.

Is this normal? Would you advise if I ever find an even better sale for Black Friday that I jump on it and just buy a workout band later on?

The bands are all interchangeable (depending on size). If you have an Apple Watch Series 6 44mm, you can use any 42mm/44mm band for it. If you have a Nike SE, the same applies. If you're interested in Nike SE (I love mine) you can get any band that you like either before or after you get the watch itself.

I have multiple sport loops and sport bands (Nike and non-Nike) that I swap out whenever the urge hits me. I've used each type of band for working out. The sport bands are a bit easier to wash & dry, but the sport loops are meant to get sweaty, wash/rinse/dry and use again.

I can't say what's specifically happening in this case. However, it's completely normal for retailers to not carry every model/configurations of a product. That's generally due to retailer decisions about what may or may not appeal to its customers and/or how many different items it wants to display/inventory - restricting choice on the knowledge that most customers will choose what the store does offer.

As it happens, Best Buy does have the SE Nike, but in my experience Best Buy still does not offer every configuration of Apple Watch. I'm sure if I examined Best Buy's website carefully I'd find there are other Apple Watch configurations that they don't have (particular combinations of case sizes and colors, bands, etc.).

As far as bands go... There are two types of "standard" band offered with Nike Edition - Sport Band and Sport Loop. Sport Band is non-breathable fluoroelastomer, Sport Loop is highly breathable woven nylon.

Maybe the holes punched in the Nike Sport Band make them more breathable than Apple's other Sport Bands, maybe not. However, my preference for active band is the Sport Loop. I have both the standard Sport Band and a Sport Loop - I much prefer the Sport Loop for comfort and ease-of-fastening.

From my perspective, there's only reason to buy Nike Edition - the Nike-exclusive watch faces. You can buy a Nike band as an accessory for other Watch models, and you can get the Nike Run Club app free for non-Nike watches as well. My first Watch was a first-generation Stainless Steel with Milanese Loop. I continue to use the Milanese Loop on my Aluminum Series 4 for dressier occasions, and I have a variety of casual bands for everyday use. If you anticipate wanting something a bit dressier than the Nike band for some occasions, you could follow a similar strategy - buy a non-Nike Watch with the "dress" band you desire, then get whatever band you please for workouts/everyday.

@ApfelKuchen I might do as you suggest. It was just that even though you can get the apple watch on sale for $20 off, the nike band is $49!!!

My original thought was to buy a Nike Watch for the workout band and then go on Amazon, other vendor for a fancy leather band.

It's just that I'm not a watch wearer. I wanted to start working out more and really want to track my heartbeat, but that's really all I want a watch for. So I'm not sure how often I will have the watch around my wrist!

It comes down to whether the Nike Sport Band offers any advantages for your purposes over the other available bands. I haven't owned a Nike Sport Band, so I can't judge whether it's cooler (pun intended) than other bands.

As to whether you'll wear the Watch for reasons other than workouts... I hadn't worn a watch for several decades before getting my first Apple Watch - the cell phone in my pocket was all I needed for timekeeping (a latter-day pocket watch). Apple Watch got me back into the habit of wearing a watch full time (so to speak).

Apple's approach with the Fitness app encourages you to wear the watch throughout your waking hours, rewarding you for measuring all the activity in your day, not just your workouts. Daily fitness, rather than the three-four workouts per week schedule that some people adopt. In my case, it keeps me on track to take a brisk walk every day and to periodically get off my butt during the rest of my day.

Nike's app is focused more specifically on workouts.

There is a lot more to Apple Watch than workout/fitness measurements, and each of us will choose those features that we find handy. I love using my Watch for Apple Pay - it's more convenient than pulling my iPhone or wallet from my pocket. It lets me discreetly check my text messages, incoming phone calls, appointment reminders, etc. I use typical wristwatch functions like timers and alarms throughout the day - again, it's easier to use than pulling my iPhone from my pocket. And my Mac unlocks with Apple Watch - fewer passwords to type. Altogether, you may start using it as a workout tool, but its many other capabilities may seduce you into wearing a watch throughout the day.

Good info and advice.

I will say that you can save in ways other than Amazon discounts, etc. For example, I purchased my Watch SE Nike Edition from Best Buy and saved $15 by getting one of the Open-Box Excellent condition items -- probably returns made by people with buyer's remorse within the first few days or so.

As you can see from mine, which is a few weeks old, it looks like new.

To check for availability, go to an Apple Watch product page, scroll down to Buying Options and click on it.

I chose the Nike version because it's the same price, like the perforated bands, Nike watch face options, and may eventually utilize the Nike Club app -- although, right now it's just Workout/Fitness
