Nike didn't reveal exactly how to unlock the perks, but by achieving various milestones in the Nike+ Run Club or Nike+ Training Club apps in a given month, NikePlus members can earn rewards such as a free one-month Apple Music subscription or access to exclusive Nike playlists that include high-energy mixes.

Meanwhile, NikePlus Members who purchase Nike's Epic React Flyknit running shoes in its exclusive White Fusion color will unlock up to four months of free access to Apple Music. The shoes are available for $150 starting today exclusively for NikePlus members in the United States, and on February 22 for non-members.

NikePlus membership is free, with registration available on the web and through the Nike, Nike SNKRS, Nike+ Run Club, or Nike+ Training Club apps for iPhone. Apple Music is one of three new so-called NikePlus Unlocks, alongside rewards from fitness class startup ClassPass and meditation app Headspace.

Do I get a free month of Apple Music for running all these miles?

So I can listen to music for free if I keep on running? Count me in!

Buying those Nike shoes gets you "up to" four months of Apple Music? What does that mean? How many months do you get?

Love Nike+, been using it for over a decade, but those shoes... do people actually run in that crap?
I have Flyknit Lunar and they feel good. But these Epic React Flyknit ones with like two inches of cushion looks like a guarantee of twisted ankles...

Yes, the cushioning is what I was referring to. It’s insane. I can’t believe people can run on that.

And to add onto the question, is this just the "trial" for Apple Music? I ask because I was a contributor to Google Maps, then Google decided to give great "perks" like 3 months of Google Music for free as a perk. Of course, if you'd already used the free 3 month trial, then you couldn't claim that...and that was obviously the best perk.

On the other hand, here I workout every day and I also subscribe to Apple Music, so that'd be nice if I was able to get that covered month-to-month...but I really doubt that is the case.

I run every day. This would be a huge incentive to push myself even further if I could get some free subscription time out of it! Hope it works!

Out of curiosity, what shoe do you recommend?
I know you didn't ask me, but as a runner who goes through 3-4 pairs of shoes every year, I've been really happy with Saucony since day 1. They provide me with the cushion my feet desperately need to run day in / day out. I usually go with a previous gen to keep the cost down a little.

This Nike Apple collaboration, which is mainly marketing, has been pretty cool for runners. It would be cool if Apple collaborated with some other companies for other sports. Head is a big sports company (with lots of manufacturing in the US actually) that makes tennis rackets and skis.

It would be cool if they cross-marketed with Head products in the same way they do running shoes with Nike. I can see people buying tennis racket grip tape or strings to match their Apple Watch band colors.

I'm not that deep into other sports, but I'm sure there are plenty of sports brands that don't have any overlap with Nike that have a fanbase willing to enjoy tie-ins to Apple.

So what do you have to do to get a free month?

I used to use the Nike app but switched to Strava. I can be bribed into using it again.

No idea. I only have two perk unlocks, neither of which is Apple Music related. One unlocked perk is for ordering the shoes shown in the article and another for "Nike Experts on Demand"

Yes, but it's a Catch-22 because you have to keep running in Nike shoes. Ha. Ha. OK, I'm biased. Nikes are not comfortable to me. Rather be able to get new running PRs than a free song to limp to. Right now the Brooks Hyperion and Mizuno Hitogami 2 are all I will run in. Stocked up on the Hyperion -- doubting it will be around long as a few places heavily discount it, rare for a current Brooks shoe. Down to my last pair of Hitogami 2. Hopefully the 3 isn't a big change.

It doesn't seem there's a need to purchase Nike shoes, just completing your workouts. Remain to be seen how much we have to complete but I'm already running a bit.
