In other news, we had a drier season than expected and everyone said all our crop yields would be down, and now all our crop yields are down. Our reporter interviewed twenty farmers, demanding to know why bad things happen and everything isn't as spectacular as some shareholders somewhere imagine it could possibly be 100% of the time.

Jeez.

I couldn’t even find a basic new iPad to replace my grandma’s aging iPad Air 2 (she is a heavy user) for Christmas for the longest time. Really surprised me. Then I saw Best Buy had some that would ship out a few days before Christmas. I ordered to have it delivered straight to their house and then I’ll bag it when we get there a few days before.

It ended up arriving today. ??‍♂️

On Nov 1st, 2018, Apple announced that they would NO longer disclose iPhone Unit Sales.

That was just a few days after the XR was released.

If things were going well for Apple right now, they would find some Excuse to RE-start the iPhone Unit Sales reporting !

IMO, "Basic Common Sense," can be used to determine if iPhone Unit Sales are going well OR NOT.

Those who know iPhones well, can do their own Assessment as to whether there is a sufficient "value proposition" to upgrade.

And by that I mean, by those who have an "11" iPhone OR older.

Specifically, what are the Must Have Features & Capabilities that would trigger a surge in iPhone Unit Sales, & how many are included in the "13" iPhones ?

I'll start:

1.) Touch ID under Glass

2.) Brand-new Industrial Design

3.) Wi-Fi 6E support

4.) ???

ALL, feel free to chip in ...
Honestly, other than TouchID under the Home Screen, there’s simply not much left on a slab of metal and glass that is that exciting. The iPhone 14/14 Pro models can’t possibly add that much improvement over the 13 Pros. We got incredible battery life, ProMotion display on an already beautiful XDR OLED display, arguably the best design (flat edges ala iPhone 4 and 5 generations), fantastic cameras and features like ProRAW and ProRes, smaller notch. The A15 is overkill, there’s nothing taking advantage really of the LiDAR sensor, so honestly, other than a dramatic revamp of iOS in the way of multitasking, I can’t imagine other than a tweaked notchless design the next-gen iPhones can bring that is that enticing. I am guessing the next iPhones will probably finally increase pixels in the camera from 12 megapixel as well, but there’s just not much left to improve on an iPhone with the current iOS.

Sounds like stock manipulation or a slow news day so let’s make up a story about one of the world’s biggest companies to get clicks.

I’m seeing shortages of apple products locally. Basic iPads not in stock anywhere nearby which is something I’ve never seen before, even after Black Friday.

I find it to be a meaningless exercise.

There are, right now even as we speak, over a billion active iPhone users. Using a different assortment of iPhones. Apple sells about 200+ million iPhones a year, which is about 20% of their current iPhone user base.

There is no need for Apple to cram any one generation of iPhone with enough features and capabilities to make it a "must have" and therefore trigger a surge in iPhone unit sales. Apple simply would not be able to supply that many iPhones anyways. New features will be added to the iPhone as and when they are ready, but I doubt we will see them all converge to create a "must have" model with enough killer features that would make people rush out to upgrade, regardless of whatever model they are on.

The important thing to recognise now is that Apple has moved from selling iPhones to selling to people with iPhones. People are holding to their phones longer, and Apple has factored this in by supporting their devices for longer. In the meantime, there is still plenty of ways to earn from their current user base, from other Apple hardware, additional accessories and services.

There will still be a new iPhone every year for when existing users are ready to upgrade, but by and large, Apple doesn't need you to keep buying iPhones. It just needs you to keep using one.

Well, apple certainly need to try harder to convince me buying iPhone 14 next year given how lacklustre iPhone 13 is.
Besides, Q4 sale number might look worse than people would like to accept.
I don’t even know what kind of iPhone model you have to begin with, but I feel people generally on sites like this are far more critical of why they don’t need to upgrade versus those with older devices who aren’t paying attention to every little spec’ with the latest iPhone offer.

When you look at Apple in general when it’s down to the marketing, it’s the camera that they’re trying to sell to consumers, because they realize how popular it is. From my viewpoint, nobody in the outside world of Macrumors cares about SoC, Ram, A-Series, ect, let alone doesn’t understand it.

Here is the solution - we all need to as a society take a break at this pace of over consumption - we deal with the supply contstraints by reducing our own demand. It will balance out if we change our behavior but will persist until it is so annoying and disheartening that price and delay cause this to happen naturally anyway.

The prices are already about to be higher, problem solved.
For the time being, there's the instant price increase brought to you by StockX.

the global lack of semiconductor chips, it's affecting all manufacturers .. ask Sony about the fabled PS5

Demand will always be high near Christmas season. Hopefully Apple will be able to address all the supply issues and customers would not have to wait long to get the products.

No end in sight, sadly. And don't forget – this is affecting everyone.
Yup. About time. China has been adversely affecting selective subsets of people around the world for decades. Its a good thing that more people are being burned by them. Welcome to the party!

It would be great if Apple cut manufacturing in China and opened up factories in the USA.

I'd much rather give Americans jobs than spend money to fund the corrupt CCP.
